The Canary Sisters are three bird students in Professor Owl's music class in the 1953 animated shorts: Melody and Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom.

Background[]

As their name indicates, they are three canaries with an affinity for singing together in close harmony similar to the Andrews Sisters. Each of the canaries are identical to each other - their heads having a light yellow coloration, a pale yellow dress, and pale yellow hair with a red bow on top of them.

In Melody, when attendance is called, they harmonize that they are present. During the "Inspiration" section, they sing "Motherhood" while doing a fan dance and showing their picture of a mother rabbit with her multiplying family. In Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom, they provide some musical assistance to the professor by repeating the subject for today, and providing backup on "A Toot and a Whistle and a Plunk and a Boom", and singing about Egypt during the "Toot" portion.

Appearances[]

Adventures in Music[]

In Melody, the Canary Sisters are seen walking together to the school birdhouse. They are also present during attendance when Professor Owl double checks to know if every student is present in his class where they tell him that they are present. They are later seen again during the "Inspiration" sequence where the sing the musical number "Motherhood" where Professor Owl is telling his students to show their creativity. During the sequence, it shows an image of a mother rabbit feeling uncomfortable of manny children multiplying in her family.

In Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom, the Canary Sisters are first seen when Professor Owl is presenting the subject of music to his class just as they sing that the study of musical instruments is their teacher's topic. They are later seen singing the "Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom" musical number and later during the "Toot" portion during the Egypt sequence.

Disney's Sing-Along Songs[]

Reused footage from Adventures in Music was used in the classic incarnations of the Disney Sing Along Songs volumes - particularly in the "Disney Sing-Along Songs Theme Song" opening. They are seen singing "A Disney Sing-Along" in chorus - albeit through archived footage from Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom.
