Dandy Crow and his brothers are a flock of five crows from Disney's 1941 film Dumbo. Once Timothy and Dumbo first meet them they are rude, but when they hear Dumbo's sad story they do everything they can to help him. They act as father figures to Dumbo. They are also notable for teaching Dumbo how to fly. The crows also sing the song "When I See an Elephant Fly".
When Dandy Crow refers to the other crows as brothers, since they do not look alike it is quite likely he means 'soul brothers', at the time a term for close, life-long friends.
Dandy Crow was originally refered to as "Jim Crow", due to the fact that they were at least somewhat inspired by stareotypical African Americans at the time. However, the Disney Company has officially changed his name to "Dandy Crow" to avoid racial insults.
Personality
When the crows are introduced they mock Timothy's thoughts of a flying elephant. Soon after the mocking they hear Dumbo's story and their attitudes completely change for the better. They feel for Dumbo, apologize to Timothy and offers to help. They become mentors towards Dumbo and are actually responsible for teaching him and Timothy how he can fly. After Dumbo's success, they cheer their new friend farewell and wishes him the best on his rise to stardom.
Appearances
Dumbo
The crows first appear in the woods where they spot Dumbo and Timothy sleeping in a tree. The crows are confused of the sight and their leader, Dandy Crow goes down to investigate. Dandy wakes Timothy up and tells him that he and Dumbo are sitting in a tree. The duo awaken and fall from the tree and land in a puddle. The crows laugh at the two as they walk away. Timothy (thinking out loud) wonders how they ended up in the tree. The crows then playfully suggest they flew. Timothy believes it and understands Dumbo's ears would make him fly. The crows laugh at this and start to sing the show stopper, When I See an Elephant Fly. After the musical number and continuos laughter, Timothy gets angered and decides to give them a lecture of Dumbo's background. The crows feel sad for Dumbo, and they cry over him. Then, they try to help make Dumbo fly. Dandy plucks a feather off of a crow (Glasses Crow) and tells them it's the magic feather to give more confidence. Dumbo then learns to fly and becomes great friends with the crows. After Dumbo becomes famous and starts a world tour, the crows wave good bye to Dumbo and wish him the best.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
The crows make a cameo appearance in the film. They are seen playing the background music of Jessica Rabbit's song "Why Don't You Do Right". Dandy Crow, Preacher Crow, and Glasses Crow can also be spotted during the final scene, hidden amongst the crowd of toons.
House of Mouse
In the animated series House of Mouse, the crows appeared as regular guests always flying with Dumbo. Their most notable role is when Dandy states he's seen nearly everything fly but he may never see Donald fly. Here, Dandy is voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson. The crows also make a cameo flying in the film Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse.
