Synopsis[]
Hydie Jekyll, a monster-kid scientist, is in town in search of the final ingredient to her secret potion.
Plot[]
Vampirina tells Demi she is getting her lab ready as a junior mad scientist named Hydie Jekyll is coming today. Jekyll then arrives and is delighted to see the Hauntleys. Vampirina introduces herself as a sciencist, as well, and Jekyll mentions that her first day at her new Junior Mad Science Academy is in a few days and every student has to being an original potion. Hers is missing an ingredient, as she tested every one of them from the Fear-iodic table with no luck. So, Jekyll knows the key to her discovery is a human ingredient. Vampirina mentions she uses human ingredients in her potions all the time. Jekyll claims she and Vampirina will make a great team when Chef Remy Bones arrives with horror-d'oeuvres. While getting some, Demi gets them all over Gregoria.
This causes Jekyll to laugh and bounce all over, revealing herself to be a part-troll. Jekyll mentions she only turns into a troll when she laughs and when she stops, she transforms back. Vampirina and Jekyll are ready to brew some potions. Jekyll's potion is something she's been working on for a long time, one that's never been done before. Vampirina wonders what ingredients to try when Demi shows some examples. Jekyll knows the human ingredient will work if the potion glows bright yellow. Vampirina decides to use a good mix of yellow items for the brightest glow, and she, Jekyll, Demi, and Gregoria collect some samples.
First up is butter, which Vampirina uses on her ghost toast. When Jekyll tests it, the potion overflows with foam. Next is lemon, and Vampirina states that they can use as many lemons as they need, according to Edna. When lemon is tested, the potion creates yellow tickling flowers. Demi then sneezes into Gregoria and Jekyll prevents herself from turning into a troll again. Jekyll wonders what ingredient is next when Vampirina brings up yarn for sweaters.
It also doesn't work, and instead creates different styles for Demi and Gregoria. Jekyll then turns into a troll again and messes up everything while sending more samples into the potion. Vampirina wishes Jekyll could tell what the potion is supposed to do. After Demi reads wishing wax and toad tonic as some ingredients, Vampirina realizes that they are used in potions that reverse magical transformations. Since Jekyll was trying to stop herself from transforming into a troll all day, Vampirina catches up with Jekyll and wonders if she is making a potion so she won't transform into a troll. Jekyll knows it, but she is embarrassed by her laugh and being a troll, as she makes messes. Jekyll is nervous she won't fit in with the other scientists at her academy, and Vampirina knows the same thing happened to her at her first day of school. She has since learned that even when one has monster quirks, Jekyll shouldn't try to change who she is, as she should be herself. Vampirina concludes that Mad Science is supposed to be messy, making it fun, and Jekyll being a troll is what makes her a one-of-a-kind scientist. Vampirina then mentions different examples about giggles making monsters unique. Jekyll finally accepts that all laughs are monsterrific.
Meanwhile, the potion starts to work, and Demi and Gregoria inform them of such. They tell Jekyll that her adorable troll self knocked the yellow human ingredients into the cauldron, creating Rainbow Slime. Jekyll knows that her laugh helped her be a spookier scientist, as her rainbow reaction is a total original. Gregoria then slips on the slime and crashes into Demi, causing everyone to laugh and Jekyll to turn into a troll again.
