"The Dance of the Celestial Orb" is the seventh episode of the Disney+ streaming television series The Mysterious Benedict Society, and the seventh episode of the series overall. It was released on July 30, 2021.

Synopsis[]

Kate embarks on a solo mission that raises Curtain's suspicions and endangers the team.

Plot[]

Kate sneaks into the underground facility, but nearly gets caught by Jackson and Jillson after they were ordered to sweep the labs. Kate escapes out a vent, but winds up hanging on the edge of a cliff as Dr. Curtain's men scour the area for the intruder. She stays until morning when the men leave and she tries to climb back up, only to drop her bucket on the shore below. She falls, but is caught by Milligan who managed to escape his submarine. He gives her words of encouragement and tells her Mr. Benedict's plan before they find her bucket.

Dr. Curtain is furious to learn of the break in and confronts S.Q. about Reynie and whether he took him to the forest. S.Q. lies, arousing his suspicion. Reynie and Constance fail to find Kate and confront Sticky about their situation. Still entranced with the Whisperer, Sticky does not worry for her and tells the two that they need to go to breakfast or else people would get suspicious. Upon hearing from a classmate that they plan to catch the intruder and punish them, Sticky comes to realize his horrible mistake in putting their friend in jeopardy, but they are all relieved to see Kate return in one piece. She informs the group of Mr. Benedict's plan just as Reynie is called to see Dr. Curtain.

Mr. Benedict, upon finding the engine of the submarine, believes that Milligan has perished, though Number Two and Rhonda correctly surmise otherwise. Mr. Benedict decides that they need to jump into action to rescue the children themselves, only to be surprised by the arrival of Ms. Perumal, who now believes his claims. She has had a change of heart and believes that Reynie is capable of saving himself and his friends from certain danger and gives them a letter to give to him. Mr. Benedict, Rhonda and Number Two begin building a dirigible, but accidentally drop the letter as it is swooped up by the falcon they still had.

Dr. Curtain confronts Reynie and deduces that he has been lying to him about what he did between certain hours of the day. He manages to stall by claiming that he was looking at stars in the sky, but Dr. Curtain gets word from his assistant Jeffers that they collected the DNA of the possible perpetrator. Reynie is reunited with his friends and informs them that they are all convinced that Martina is the culprit. They spot the falcon flying by and see the letter it has and give chase to find it.

Kate runs into Martina who has been hiding and she agrees to help her out. After dragging her to a safe area, Martina admits that she is well aware that everyone does not like her, but that she is the first true friend she had. Kate takes her hair pin so that she can throw people off her scent and decides to rescue her as well. S.Q. discovers the falcon and the letter and angrily confronts Reynie about it. As he takes him to Dr. Curtain, Reynie tries to convince him of his step-father's evil scheme. When he mentions the mind sweeper, S.Q. becomes conflicted and tells Reynie to leave while also giving him his letter back.

S.Q. asks Dr. Curtain what the Improvement is, but he becomes agitated and asks him to leave. Reynie reads Ms. Perumal's encouraging letter and reunites with his friends. They decide to stay with Milligan offering his support. Martina finds the spot that Kate was in and finds the tetherball key chain she made for her. Jackson and Jillson spot the falcon and see Mr. Benedict. They report back to Dr. Curtain who sends his men to the area to investigate. Luckily, Mr. Benedict, Rhonda, and Number Two have escaped in their dirigible and head towards the Institute.

Book comparisons[]

  • Kate sneaks into the facility in both the book and the series. However in the book, she breaks in using the code she learned and overhears Mr. Curtain and the Executives talking about the Brainsweeper. She escapes and is forced to swim away into the night. In the series, she breaks in using a code she stole from Martina and nearly gets caught by Jackson and Jillson where she is forced to hang onto a cliff outside of the lab.
  • In the book, Kate returns to the group in the middle of the night and reports what she saw. In the series, she returns to them during breakfast time.
  • The entire breakfast scene of Kate hiding her shoes and trying to remove the licorice piece is removed. Additionally, S.Q. disrupting the search by destroying the footprints is also completely removed.
  • Milligan shows up in time to rescue Kate where he reveals his intent to take them back to Mr. Benedict, only to see that the children are determined to stay and defeat Dr. Curtain. In the book, he arrives in the middle of the night, disguised as an Executive, and beckons all four children to come with him. They turn him down and he reveals that Mr. Benedict knew that they would want to stay.
  • Reynie and S.Q.'s entire subplot is invented for the show as is the latter's curiosity over Dr. Curtain's plans.
