"The Devil You Know" is the twenty-fourth episode of the Disney Channel and Marvel Animation series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

Synopsis[]

When Lunella and Devil Dinosaur spend the weekend apart after a disagreement, Devil Dino gets mixed up with a rag-tag group of ex-super-hero sidekicks.

Plot[]

Lunella and her family are going on a road trip. Devil wants to come, but cannot due to the Lafayettes, save for Mimi, not knowing he lives with them. Lunella leaves a phone behind for him, but Devil makes it clear that he feels left out of the family. Lunella angrily leaves while Devil wanders the city. He finds a poster inviting underappreciated animal sidekicks called Action Buddies Confidential and attends the meeting. Devil meets the rest of the animals, Redwing, a red falcon with psychic powers, Aragorn, a female pegasus, Toothgnasher, a goat, and their leader Pebble, a dog. The animals, who are all capable of talking, happily bring Devil into the group after he claims that Moon Girl was mean to him.

Pebble reveals that his owner Granite abandoned him when he decided to move to an apartment that did not allow dogs. The rest of the animals claim that they left their owners due to also experiencing neglect from them. Devil finds himself enjoying their company, but comes to the realization that they are not the best as they skipped out on paying for their bill. Meanwhile, Lunella begins to regret her argument with Devil and hopes that he is doing well after he hangs up on her numerous times. When Devil calls the group out for their behavior, Pebble invites everyone to a "road trip" of their own by taking them to a cave.

The cave turns out to be the hideout of Granite, as Pebble orders everyone to destroy everything. Devil faulters before finally turning on them and fighting the group. Granite returns and is happy to see Pebble. It turns out that the apartment was not for Granite, but for his mother and that he was devastated over Pebble leaving. Pebble takes his owner back before Granite further reveals that both Redwing and Aragorn's owners want them back (Toothgnasher's owner didn't want him). Devil returns home where he is happily greeted by Lunella who apologizes for what she said. She asks what he was up to while she was gone, but he plays coy.

  • "Us" by Zac Clark

Trivia[]

  • At the Action Buddies Confidential base, a pinball machine for Droom vs. Torg can be seen.
  • Redwing is typically the sidekick of Falcon, but is portrayed as the sidekick of a Falcon-inspired hero. Ironically, he is voiced by Bumper Robinson who has voiced Falcon in a variety of Marvel related projects.
  • This is the first episode where Casey is absent.
  • The title is a reference to the Kylie Minogue song "Better the Devil You Know".
  • Gladys Mae West was mentioned by Lunella when showing off the Devil Phone. The mathematician is responsible for developing models of the shape of the Earth and shaping the development of Global Positioning Systems, making her contributions to science and technology invaluable as today’s technology such as cellphones operates off of her work.
  • The ABCs montage is made as a parody of 1990s sitcoms, with the theme song being a riff on the opening intros of those sitcoms would typically have.
