The Dew Drop Fairy is a character who was cut from the 2018 Disney film The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. She was originally going to appear in the film, but was cut from the script. Despite being deleted, she does appear in the film-inspired extended novelization The Nutcracker and the Four Realms: The Secret of the Realms.
Background[]
Physical appearance[]
Dew Drop is a large fairy with a humanoid appearance. According to concept art, Dew Drop was going to have three different design changes depending on the region. Dew Drop's moth form would have showed her sporting two large moth wings from her back. In addition to moth wings she sported from her back, Dew Drop would have also gathered flora from the forest as well as other resources such as molted silk from a caterpillar's cocoon, pine cone seeds, and scales, as well as other natural materials. Dew Drop's butterfly form would have showed her sporting two large butterfly wings spreading from her back wearing molted silk resembling the one in her moth form, except that she would have worn flowers on her head. Dew Drop's frost dragonfly form would have showed her wearing white garment around her body with pure white silk around her body, except that she gathered snowflakes around her and would have two large transparent dragonfly wings as the form's name suggests.[1]

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms: The Secret of the Realms[]
Despite being deleted from the film itself, the Dew Drop Fairy somehow appeared in the extended novelization inspired by the film. She is depicted as a navigator working for Sugar Plum following her orders.
In the story, Dew Drop first appears when the Sugar Plum Fairy stares at her, much to Philip feeling uncomfortable about this. Clara Stahlbaum, on the other hand, approaches her in excitement that she has never seen a real fairy before. As she talks to Clara, Sugar Plum tells her to behave, much to Dew Drop complaining about this.
In Marie Stahlbaum's flashback, she encouraged Sugar Plum to open the jar where Dew Drop flew out of it, much to the Sugar Plum Fairy's surprise. Marie recognizes that Dew Drop is the very same fairy, which took some fine tinkering to use the Engine to being her to life, reminding her of family as she thought that she would be Sugar Plum's perfect companion. Sugar Plum agreed that she is the perfect companion for her just before Dew Drop lands on the Sugar Plum's shoulder which she tells the latter that she only met her, planning to them to know each other first.
As Phillip and the other troops arrived at the Fourth Realm, Dew Drop distracted the soldiers, telling them about the dangerous flying conditions while Clara requests her to stay with her as she tells her that she needs the key, much to Phillip's disappointment. Later, when Clara began looking for Dew Drop, she ended up finding the automaton of Mother Ginger instead.
Later, Dew Drop tells the guards to lower the drawbridge of the Palace just before Clara hands the key to Sugar Plum who leads her and Phillip to the Engine Room with Dew Drop following along. Later, when Sugar Plum held the golden key in her hands, Dew Drop told her to use it, but was unable to, much to her frustration. Furthermore, when chaos occurs within the Fourth Realm swarmed by mice, Dew Drop sat on Sugar Plum's shoulder while snacking on a miniature bag of popcorn, just before she congratulates her for her good deed. However, what no one realized was before that, Dew Drop completed a special mission under orders from Sugar Plum where she sprinkled Sugar Starter power across the Fourth Realm. Sugar Plum then tasks Dew Drop to raise the drawbridge, which she does so, much to Mother Ginger who is enraged that Sugar Plum and Dew Drop betrayed her.
Later, when Clara confronts Sugar Plum for her betrayal and that her true colors were revealed, Dew Drop trailed behind with the sparks trailing from her - now in a red coloration. Clara then decides to put an end to all the trouble that Sugar Plum caused, which she pressed the button on the Engine, much to Dew Drop's worry, just before the beam hits the two fairies. This results the Dew Drop Fairy and the Sugar Plum Fairy to be perished forever with Sugar Plum transformed into the form of a lifeless porcelain doll.
Trivia[]
- Dew Drop's frost dragonfly form in concept art has a slight resemblance to Silvermist from the Disney Fairies franchise.
- In the original story and the ballet, Dew Drop was not an antagonist but rather a good character leading the Waltz of the Flowers, unlike the one featured in Disney's The Nutcracker and the Four Realms novelization.
