"The Dinner" is the first segment of the thirty-ninth episode of Amphibia. It aired on April 24, 2021.
Synopsis[]
Anne and the Plantars invite some old adversaries over for dinner to try to bury the hatchet.
Plot[]
Anne, Marcy and the Plantars are setting up a dinner for Sasha and Grime to welcome them to their home. While Anne and Marcy are happy, the Plantars still hold some high suspicion of them, but the girls calm them. At the Sundew residence, Sasha and Grime have taken up the spare room and prepare for the dinner. Sasha insists that she is taking advantage of Anne and Marcy and does not want to attend, but Grime does not want to hear anymore of it as they are to join them for dinner and hopes to easily befriend them to lower their defenses for their plan to work. Sasha finally relents with Grime asking her to remove her weapons.
Sasha and Grime arrive with a "vol-cake-no", which Grime claims is supposed to be the best dessert ever. Anne, Marcy and Sasha excitedly get back together, but when it comes time to sit down for dinner, Sasha begins to take issue with the Plantars, though Grime tells her to be nice. The dinner ends up being awkward as Grime and the Plantars make insensitive comments and the girls recall moments from their past that paint Sasha in a bad light. They go inside to play Pictionary where, once again, the conversation becomes too high stress as past mistakes are brought up that result in Sasha throwing a tantrum.
As the girls begin the argue, the vol-cake-no increases in size and begins to squirt out lava and giant hornets, which Grime realizes is not a frog thing and is promptly paralyzed by one of the hornets' stingers. The girls work together to defeat the hornets by launching their stingers back at them and rescue Grime and the Plantars. Afterwards, the lava quickly hardens into chocolate. Sasha admits that she does not want to change and Anne tells her that instead of her changing, she needs to acknowledge that other people change instead. The girls make up as Grime comes to his senses and offers everyone to eat the chocolate covered hornets, which they love.

- Sasha and Grime are living in a spare room with the Sundews.
- Despite Sasha and Grime still continuing with their plan, they want to continue having fun. This is carried over into the next episode.
- Grime has zero understanding of frog culture. This is ironic, as genetically toads are a subgroup of frog.
- This is the first time Sasha is shown with her hair down.
- Also her dagger was hiding in her hair.
- This and "Battle of the Bands" were uploaded to the Disney Channel Youtube channel on August 24, 2021.
