"The Dude" is the first segment of the forty-sixth episode of Recess.
Synopsis[]
A school legend, named Franklin Dudikoff AKA: "The Dude" comes back to Third Street School. Now an aspiring teacher, he returns as an idol - now known to the kids as Mr. Dude.
Plot[]
As the Recess Gang arrives at school, they notice an adult swinging on the swings. They learn that the man was once a student at Third Street Elementary School and that he is now there to teach. The man is revealed to be Franklin Dudikoff, The Dude, a former student who was considered the top prankster at the school and T.J.'s idol and are further delighted to learn that he will be assisting Miss Grotke in the class. Dudikoff, or Mr. Dude, is revealed to be nervous about teaching and everyone quickly grows bored with his rote style. When Miss Grotke leaves to give him time to settle in, T.J. takes the opportunity to remind him of his time at Third Street and he goes into a story about outwitting Miss Finster. While Miss Grotke believes that he will improve, Miss Finster is convinced that he is a troublemaker through and through.
Eventually, Mr. Dude's teaching, or lack thereof, results in the students getting failing grades and Mr. Dude being humiliated. T.J. speaks with him and he reveals that he always liked the concept of teaching and that while he and the kids might find science boring, he considers it fascinating. T.J. encourages him to have fun with teaching and the next day, Mr. Dude implements a new style of teaching that implements some physical education by teaching the kids about the constant movement of electrons and protons. Miss Finster is appalled by his teaching style, but Principal Prickly cannot deny that it is getting results and brings him on as a teacher full time. Mr. Dude has his way by putting a sign on Miss Finster's back reading "Point at me and whisper".
