The Ethereal is a titular one-time character from the Aladdin TV series episode of the same name.
Background[]
Physical Appearance[]
She is a slender humanoid with an invisible body covered in a inner white robe with long sleeves and a hood, a light lavender blue robe with a golden stripe design, and a golden face mask with yellow gold-like glowing eyes and a mouth.
Role in the episode[]
The Ethereal was first seen with the golden mask at a merchant store with jewelry and necklaces and as Jasmine picks it up, she heard a woman's voice coming from it. The prophecy that which she said in Jasmine's existing nightmare was ice falling through the sky, the earth moving like an earthquake, light becoming dark as pitch-black as the darkest night sky, creatures of destruction (like legendary giant desert scorpions) bringing forth their wrath, and Agrabah, in the future, was destroyed.
The eclipse was ending, and the Ethereal, in a long, white robe, was hovering in the sky. She was wearing a golden mask like the one Jasmine had seen in her dream. She began to descend to the ground and told everyone that the day of reckoning for their civilization would bring her judgment upon Agrabah. But Iago asked her what happened if she didn't like what she saw in the city, at which she replied that it would be reduced to dust and rubble like the dream that Jasmine saw in the future and her bad dream. Despite the great libraries, art, and economy of the city, the Ethereal felt unsatisfied and compared these attributes to the ones from legendary cities that she had destroyed in the past. Then, true to her word, she began her spree of destruction to Agrabah.
But the group was determined to stop her. Genie turned into a giant golf player, and the Ethereal was magically placed into a golf tee, which he tried to hit with a club. But she put up a barrier that protected her from being hit, so Genie broke into a thousand pieces. Then, Aladdin tackled her to the ground and looked at her white robe, which was empty. She lifted hup by herself off the ground, and the robe floated over to it.
In the chaos that she had brought, Jasmine saved some children from falling rubble, but was killed when she got crushed by the rubble itself. This is what the Ethereal needed to see to ensure that Agrabah would not be destroyed. At the end, with her arm, the Ethereal brought Jasmine back to life and restored the city from the destruction that she had made. What had finally impressed her was the people of Agrabah. She told the lesson of cherishing their people to everyone in Agrabah, plus Aladdin and the gang, or she would return again. Then, she rose back up from the sky and disappeared into thin air.
Trivia[]
- She is the only character in the series shown to resurrect the dead, although whether this is true resurrection or some other ability such as time manipulation is unknown.
- The Ethereal is similar to Mamoon-Ra because they both are a mask with a feminine voice that says words of prophecy (The Ethereal say a prophecy to Jasmine, and Mamoon-Ra say a prophecy to Aladdin).
