"The Family Reunion" is an episode of Wander Over Yonder.

Synopsis

Wander and Sylvia hide out from Dominator's forces with Sylvia's family.

Plot

Wander and Sylvia have once again run afoul of Lord Dominator after the former tried to figure out what her favorite beverage is (apparently she is a "coffee gal"). Sylvia, tired of constantly running from Dominator, decides to take Wander back to her home planet to meet her family. Her planet is a rock quarry covered land full of Zbornaks who mostly work and lift rocks around. Wander is excited to meet Sylvia's family, but she informs him that they are not the kind of family he thinks they are. Sylvia introduces Wander to her brothers Bill, Phil and Gil who are all muscle obsessed benchers, the paranoid Gram, and her mother Dorothy.

It quickly becomes apparent that Sylvia's family are less than ideal as Wander initially believed. Gram thinks that Wander is trying to steal her things, her brothers think that Wander is a monkey-cat and Dorothy seems less then happy to see her daughter. Sylvia admits to Wander that she left home without telling them and believes that they are upset with her for it. Wander attempts to get more information from the family about their relationship to Sylvia, but they constantly change the subject and Sylvia is forced to do chores that tire her out. Eventually, Sylvia demands that she and Wander leave, but ends up arguing with her family. Wander, upset at all the fighting, orders everyone to gather in the living room.

Wander decides to get to the bottom of the family dilemma by using a talking stick to get everyone to open up. Instead, this causes another fight to break out. Sylvia finally apologizes for leaving without saying goodbye, but Dorothy tells her that she is angry with her because she came back. She reveals a room in their house that contains news clippings of Wander and Sylvia's good deeds throughout the galaxy and their run ins with Lord Hater and Dominator. Dorothy tells Sylvia that she wants her to continue doing what she does and not give up as that is what her father would have wanted. The whole family begins crying together as Wander scoops everyone up for a big hug, pleasing the brothers who wanted to know how much he can bench, but causing Gram to think he is grabbing her purse.

Trivia

• The galaxy that appears at the beginning of the show's opening theme briefly appears in this episode.
• It is revealed that Sylvia left home without informing her family, although it is never explained why.
• This is the third episode Wander is actually angry. ("The Box", "The Toddler")
• This is the second episode Wander uses the show's off color words, not counting Angry Wander in "The Wanders". ("The Toddler")
• The episode reveals that female Zbornaks closely resemble horse-dinosaur hybrids while male Zbornaks resemble rhinos.
