Production[]
Variety reported on July 20, 2019 that Kevin Feige announced that a Fantastic Four film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was in early development, even after four unsuccessful attempts at a successful movie adaptation.[5] The film was officially announced by Marvel Studios with Jon Watts attached to direct.[6]
By April 29, 2022, Jon Watts had exited the project and would no longer direct the film.[7] Matt Shakman was in talks to direct the film, after Watts left the project, which was later confirmed at D23.[8][9]
Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer were hired to write the screenplay for the film. By March 31, 2023, they were replaced by Josh Friedman who began rewriting the film's script.[10][11] In an interview with The Playlist, Matt Shakman revealed that Cameron Squires had co-written the film's script.[12]
Disney announced on June 13, 2023 they had pushed back the film's release date to May 2, 2025, taking over the release date from Avengers: Doomsday. This came in line of the ongoing writers strike in America.[13]
Filming[]
Filming began on July 30, 2024, in London.[14]
Trivia[]
- Before starring as Steve Rogers/Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris Evans played the Human Torch in the 2005 film and its sequel Rise of the Silver Surfer.

- This film is set to be released 10 years after the 2015 version by Josh Trank, and 20 years after the 2005 version by Tim Story.
- This is the fifth film in the MCU to be shot entirely with IMAX cameras, after Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Thunderbolts*.
- This film marks the return of Robert Downey Jr. to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after his departure from the franchise in 2019's film Avengers: Endgame. However, he returns for a new role, as Doctor Doom in this film, rather than playing Tony Stark/Iron Man. He will continue portraying Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
