The Flying Mouse is a small mouse featured in the 1934 Silly Symphony animated short of the same name. He also makes a cameo appearance in Mickey's Polo Team.
Appearances[]
The Flying Mouse[]
In the short, he is a mouse who dreams of having wings and flying with the birds. After he imagines that, his attempts to fly like one of the birds was unsuccessful; however, he finds a butterfly caught in a spider web where he defends her from the spider, fighting him back to his lair just as he frees the butterfly from it. However, the butterfly transforms into a fairy where she thanks him for his kindness as she grants him one wish. When the mouse wishes that he wants to fly, the fairy warns him that even though a mouse never learned how to fly like a bird, she tells him to be careful when using this wish.
As a result, the Flying Mouse gains a pair of bat wings, giving him the ability to fly, thanking the fairy that his wish came true. He suddenly sees the birds flying around as the Flying Mouse attempts to fly like them. However, all the other birds are surprised to see the Flying Mouse fly like them, as the other birds fly away in a shocked reaction, except for one that stands on the branch. A mother bird furiously defends her son, telling him to stay away from the mouse. The Flying Mouse sees his family where they retreat to protect themselves and as he knocks on his family's door, the mother mouse rejects him as he retreats into a cave full of bats.
Later, the Flying Mouse encounters a bat greets him and treats him like an outcast. Three other bats descend down and treat him like a nothing (specifically, treating him like an outcast). Much to his shock, the Flying Mouse finds out that his wish has more consequences than he imagined. He reflects himself on a pond where he his reflection hallucinates into that of a bat, which scares him away. Sad that he was treated like an outcast, the Butterfly Fairy appears and the Mouse realizes that the wish she gave him put him into a bad reputation, which she replies that he learned his lesson, telling him to be himself so that life will smile on him. After his wish was granted, the Mouse reunites with his family as they are happy to see him be himself.
Mickey's Polo Team[]

Trivia[]
- A running gag in The Flying Mouse is when the titular character gets his wish granted, he kisses the Butterfly Fairy's arm just as he becomes happy that he gets his wish.
