"The Fourth Bath" is the second segment of the first episode of the Disney Channel animated series, Kiff.
Synopsis[]
Kiff learns that at Barry's house, his family shares bathwater and Kiff is fourth in line.
Plot[]
Kiff is having her first sleepover at Barry's house. During dinner, Barry tells Kiff that she is now an honorary member of the Buns family and commemorates the occasion by gifting her a sweater previously owned by him and his older siblings. Kiff learns about the Buns children's tradition of handing down items to their younger siblings, but is confused to hear that the siblings also hand down bathwater. Barry explains that the Buns children bathe from oldest to youngest – Harry, Terri, Barry, then Kristophe – and all use the same bathwater; Kiff, being slightly younger than Barry, is thus fourth in line to bathe. Disgusted by the idea of bathing in used bathwater, Kiff unsuccessfully asks Harry to switch places with her. Barry tells Kiff that she can only get to the front of the line by negotiating with everyone in front of her.
Barry readily agrees to switch places with Kiff, but to make Barry feel like he has earned something, Kiff opens a window in his room to let in the breeze. Afterwards, Kiff switches places with Terri in exchange for participating in a video for Terri's online channel. Kiff is again rebuffed by Harry, but she learns that he misses his old stuffed doll Farley, which he handed down to Kristophe. She attempts to get Farley back from Kristophe, but he refuses to give up the doll. However, he is captivated by a candy wrapper in Kiff's possession. Kiff places the wrapper on a stool, out of Kristophe's reach, then switches Farley with a decoy while a distracted Kristophe tries to reach the wrapper. Kiff gives Harry the doll and successfully secures the first bath.
Before Kiff can bathe, a breeze from Barry's open window blows the candy wrapper into Kristophe's hands, leading Kristophe to notice Farley's disappearance. Kristophe finds the doll in Harry's room and attacks Harry, and the rumbling from Harry's room causes Terri's ice cream to spill on her laptop, making it malfunction. An enraged Terri leaves her room and becomes annoyed by the breeze coming from Barry's room, thinking the breeze caused the ice cream to spill, so she closes his window, which Barry objects to. Mary goes downstairs and finds her children all fighting with each other.
Hearing the commotion, Kiff goes downstairs and apologizes for causing the Buns siblings to argue among themselves, but they do not fault her and point out that they fight all the time. Kiff nonetheless decides to make it up to them by taking the fifth bath.

- The name of the brand of Terri's phone is simply "a phone", parodying the iPhone brand name.
- A can of Clay-Do, a parody of Play-Doh, is seen in Barry's room.
- The recurring clock transition screens parody the transitions from the TV series 24.
- A poster for Fly Guys, a parody of the 1986 film Top Gun, is seen hanging in Barry's room.
- Hanging on the wall in Harry's room is a poster for "Bliss Division", a parody of the band Joy Division; the poster design is based on the cover for Joy Division's 1979 album Unknown Pleasures. There is also a poster for The Gothman Prophecies, a parody of the 2002 film The Mothman Prophecies.
- Upon noticing that Farley is missing, Kristophe stares blankly in a manner similar to the Bride in the 2003 film Kill Bill: Volume 1 (and its 2004 sequel). The music heard underneath is based on the Bride's revenge motif, the Ironside theme by Quincy Jones.
- The blue screen of death seen on Terri's laptop is based on the blue screen from Windows 8 and subsequent Windows OS releases, which features a sad emoticon.
- Lucy Heavens has stated that this episode was inspired by her childhood when she grew up in a family of five children. Just like in the episode, she and her siblings had baths in birth order.[1]
