The Game Code Room is a section in Sugar Rush in the film Wreck-It Ralph. It is a wide-open space full of coding that enables the programming of Sugar Rush and everything within it. King Candy (AKA Turbo) infiltrated the code room in order to manipulate the game for the sake of his selfish ambitions.

Background[]

After Sugar Rush was added in to Litwak's Arcade, Turbo from the unplugged game TurboTime managed to invade the game disguised as King Candy and with the help of the sour ball Sour Bill, went to the game's Code Room and managed to disable the code of Vanellope von Schweetz, the ruler of Sugar Rush, which turned her into a glitch. He was also pragmatic enough to also disable the code of the memories of both the racers and civilians of Sugar Rush to manipulate them to turn on Vanellope. Since then, he has assumed the role as the ruler of Sugar Rush, complete with him adding in a giant icon of him in the code room, and doing everything he can to keep Vanellope at bay from racing because he finds out that if she crosses the finish line, the game will reset to its original programming and he will be exposed as a fraud while making the cover story that if Vanellope races, her glitching will cause the players of the game to assume that Sugar Rush is malfunctioning and will therefore be unplugged.

However, 15 years after this, King Candy discovers that Vanellope is being assisted by Wreck-It Ralph (the villain of Fix-it Felix Jr., who came to Sugar Rush to retrieve a medal he acquired in the game Hero's Duty, which Vanellope used as entry fee to a race to be added on the game's roster) to make a kart to be in the race. Desperate, he re-enters the Code Room and finds the Winner's Cup code to which he removes the data of Ralph's medal before putting it in his code, thus acquiring it and enabling him to go find Ralph to both give him the medal and deceive him into destroying Vanellope's kart by giving the falsified explanation of what could happen if Vanellope races. However, Ralph soon finds out that King Candy lied to him when he sees Vanellope's picture on the side of the Sugar Rush game console.

Following a Cy-Bug attack that nearly resulted in all of Sugar Rush getting destroyed and King Candy/Turbo getting killed, Vanellope manages to cross the finish line and thus, Sugar Rush is restored to its former setting, with her code being put back in place and the racers and civilians regaining their memories.

Appearance[]

The Game Code Room is a wide-open dark space that is accessible by a secret elevator somewhere in the Sugar Rush Castle. It is filled with many code icons that enable the game's setting like the names of the characters (with Turbo/King Candy's icon being as big as a house), Winner's Cup, the Racer's Stadium and the Jumbotron. The Code Room has no gravity within it, so King Candy must depend on Sour Bill to hold a rope made of licorice to keep him from flying away. If someone's code is taken out (like Vanellope's), they will no longer be part of the game, though they will be turned into a glitch.

Trivia[]

  • It's likely the rest of the games in the arcade are equipped with their own Code Rooms as Sugar Rush is.
  • The door that leads to the code room is modeled after a classic Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) controller and the password to get into the Code Room (as seen on the Tapper's napkin that King Candy possesses) is "Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A", after which the user presses start.
  • At one point when King Candy enters the Sugar Rush code room, he says the line, "One of these things is not like the other" while searching for Ralph's medal. This is a reference to a Sesame Street song, "One of These Things".
