"The Gay Nineties" is a song featured in the 1941 Mickey Mouse short film The Nifty Nineties with music composed and lyrics written by Charles Wolcott. As the only non-authentic piece in the short from the 1890s, the song was performed by the vocal quartet The Sportsmen, which featured Thurl Ravenscroft in one of his earliest projects for Disney.
Lyrics[]
A day in the nineties
When Grandma was a girl
The horseless carriage was quite the show
Grandpa cussed when the thing wouldn't go
Those days were gay days
When Grandma was a girl
Come and take a look in our picture book
Of the gay nineties
