"The Girl Was Trouble" is the first segment of the twentieth episode of Recess.
Synopsis[]
When Gretchen is called into the principal's office for committing a string of offenses, she recounts the story of how she committed those crimes to get her Galileo handheld computer back.
Plot[]
Miss Finster lines up all the students at Third Street to root out a troublemaker who had apparently left a trail of vandalism in their wake before announcing that the culprit is Gretchen Grundler. The Gang is shocked, especially when Gretchen admits to the deed and is called away to wait by the principal's office. She sits next to Sue Bob Murphy, another noted troublemaker who is lightly amused that she is there and straight up asks what landed her in this situation. Gretchen reveals that on her birthday she received a handheld supercomputer called Galileo which features an AI of a frog character that interacts with her.
While playing kickball, Gretchen sets Galileo to the side, but upon returning to her seat finds that someone has stolen him. Panicked, the Gang search everywhere until Gretchen realizes that she never checked the lost and found. She approaches Menlo who has never seen her Galileo end up in the box, but did see graffiti artist Greg Skeens possessing an item that looked like it. Gretchen finds Skeens who admits to taking it, but swapped it. He refuses to say until Gretchen helps him come up with a nasty word to describe Finster. Gretchen seeks out Conrad Mundy who is in the bathroom trying to get paper to stick to the ceiling. Gretchen helps him and he tells her that he traded Galileo with Kurst the Worst.
Gretchen finds Kurst stealing food from the back of the cafeteria and tries to get answers, but she refuses. The two get into a fight, but Kurst escapes, leading to what has currently transpired. Miss Lemon reveals that Finster put the clues together to figure out that she was behind the recent messes. Feeling pity for her, Sue Bob reveals that she got Galileo back from Kurst and gives him back to Gretchen. She gets called in to see Principal Prickly who plans to cancel her recess until he begins to have trouble with his computer. Gretchen helps him out and he forgets about the recess punishment, though he does order her to clean up the messes she made.
