"The Great Gadfly" is the second segment of the sixty-fifth episode of Miles from Tomorrowland. It premiered on January 8, 2018 alongside "Grendel's Moving Castle", and is the first second of the eleventh episode in the third season.

Plot[]

On Planet Hemera, the People of the Peaks are living a normal life. Ebon is playing with his Jet Retrograde toy when they hear a rumbling. Fortis tells Ebon that the rumbling can't be good. Fortis says that if there is a monster, they are going down there to face it. However, Gadfly warns the People of the Peaks to not go down there. He then introduces himself as a "friend" who came here to capture the monster, which he explains as very big and very scary, and urges the People of the Peaks to stay up in their homes for their own safety. Gadfly describes himself as a superhero, although Ebon says that he doesn't look like a superhero, and tells them that they can call him "The Great Gadfly".

Back on the Zenith, Zeno informs Mission Force One about a call from Planet Hemera, and puts the call through. Ebon tells the team that there is a monster in the dark canyons, which also roars and knocks down mountain peaks. Ebon says that "The Great Gadfly" plans to trap the monster, however, Mission Force One knows Gadfly all too well. Miles reassures Ebon that Mission Force One is on their way to Hemera.

Miles tells the team about the mission being to save the People of the Peaks from whatever monster is there. Haruna likes the idea of monster hunting when the ship powers down. Zeno says that the ship's batteries are almost out of power. With the charging station on the opposite direction from Hemera, Miles decides to go with Mirandos to Hemera while Loretta, Blodger, Haruna, and M.E.R.C. head to the charging station. Miles tells them to meet him and Mirandos on Hemera after the Zenith is charged. The team then performs their signature catchphrase and activates their recruit suits' mission mode.

Miles and Mirandos then take the red space jet to Hemera while the Zenith heads towards the charging station. Once at Hemera, Miles and Mirandos meet Ebon and the People of the Peaks. Miles introduces them to Mirandos, Mission Force One's chief engineer. Mirandos is welcomed to Hemera. However, Fortis says that the people will soon be rid of the fearsome beast thanks to "The Great Gadfly". Miles is about to talk about it when more rumbling occurs. Gadfly then appears, but crashes into a peak. He is then caught by Miles and Mirandos before mispronouncing them "Millard" and "Matilda", respectively. Miles and Mirandos tell him that they are here to see that monster and what Gadfly is up to.

More rumbling then occurs, but Gadfly insists that he'll handle the monster. With more dangers occurring, Miles says that Gadfly will have to wait. He then saves passengers whose wing glider lost one of its wings by a falling rock. Mirandos, on the other hand, saves someone from falling off a bridge that got broken due to another falling rock.

Miles says that it is possible Gadfly is down in the canyons battling a monster. Gadfly claims that the monster ran away from him and that he can be intimidating, but lost the monster in the dark. Miles decides for him and Mirandos to help Gadfly, however, Gadfly claims that he is getting a second wind. Gadfly claims that he will catch the monster although Miles tells him that his name isn't The Great Gadfly. Gadfly tells them to not go down there, no matter what. Miles decides for him and Mirandos to check out that "monster" for themselves.

In the canyons, Miles and Mirandos think they see the monster ahead, but when they get a closer look, they see a machine and Gadfly's goons. Mirandos sees that this is a mining operation. The People of the Peaks hear the rumbling, and Fortis orders everyone to get inside. Gadfly tells the goons to move to a different mining spot, as the goons they're drilling has people on top of the peak. One of the goons says that this is the one where the great staridium is. Miles and Mirandos immediately realize this. They tell Gadfly what he was really after, and Miles says that what he's doing is low. Miles and Mirandos decide to take Gadfly to the SpaceGuard. Gadfly mispronounces Miles' name "Mickey" before making off with the goons. Before leaving Gadfly says that he didn't mean to hurt anybody.

However, the peak is about to collapse because the goons dug too far. Miles decides that it needs to be braced, and until that happens, he uses his pulse ray to hold up the peak. He activates the pulse ray long enough for Mirandos to solidize a support structure under the base of the mountain to hold it up. Mirandos says that the structure should hold until the Hemerans refill the tunnel.

Back on the peak, Miles and Mirandos tell the People of the Peaks that their home is safe and that they won't be hearing from the "monster" ever again. Mirandos says that Gadfly was the reason why the peaks were in danger. Just then, a rock falls, but Gadfly returns to knock it out of the way. Gadfly is then congratulated by the People of the Peaks, but says that although he likes it, being a hero is hard. Although told by Miles that being a hero suits him and by Mirandos that he should try it sometime, Gadfly prefers to be known as Gadfly Garnett the thief as he crashes into his ship. Gadfly then leaves Hemera.

The Zenith then arrives at Hemera. Miles tells Fortis that the monster and the damage to the peak was all Gadfly, as he was drilling for staridium. Fortis then tells Miles and Mirandos that the People of the Peaks must learn to handle their own problems and not depend on superheroes. The rest of Mission Force One arrives, ready to fight the monster. Miles and Mirandos say that there was no monster, but Gadfly, which they took care of, upsetting Haruna, Loretta, M.E.R.C., and Blodger, who says that Miles and Mirandos always get the fun jobs.
