"The Great McStuffins Meltdown" is the one hundred thirty-second episode of Doc McStuffins. It premiered on March 7, 2020 and is the thirteenth episode in the fifth season.
Plot[]
All the toys come to the McStuffinsville Toy Hospital for the start of the ribbon cutting, as it got a huge upgrade with new high-tech gadgets and machines. Pickles the bunny rides Officer Pete there so Doc can give her a checkup. The toys are gathered for the unveiling of the new and improved McStuffinsville Hospital 2.0, hosted by Doc and her toys. Thanks goes to the Wicked King, whose generous donation is what contributed to the new machines and technology. The most important part of the hospital's makeover is a statue. Hallie tells Stuffy that it's supposed to be the Wicked King himself. Doc then opens the hospital for patients. The Wicked King hopes it has the latest gadgets and machines he hopes will be installed. Doc assures him, as she and her toys have been working overtime to make sure everything runs smoothly.
So far, things go just as great. Doc assumes that with the new machines and technology, she and her toys will be able to help more toys than they used to, as faster is better. Everyone likes it, and Pickles arrives for the checkup. However, Doc is not seeing patients now, as she has to make sure all the new machines put in work right. The good new is, Pickles will get one of the first checkups by a machine. Doc will show Pickles around so she can see all the changes made, and the Wicked King decides to go along, followed by everyone else.
Doc shows Pickles that the reception area is automated so toys can be brought to their appointments faster than ever before. As Doc shows Pickles more things, Chilly is told by Frida Fairy that the hospital is fabulous, although she couldn't find the sing-in sheet. Frida gets scanned and goes to her appointment in exam room five. As she goes there, Doc and her toys welcome Pickles to the McStuffins Nursery 2.0. The robotic arms can do anything to calm babies down. Everyone is impressed by them. Lambie then tends to a crying baby when the Cuddle Bot 5.0 cuddles her itself. The Pet Vet wing is also updated. Doc shows the different machines used to take care of pets. Stuffy states he will finally have time for all his hobbies when he already has plenty of time for them. Squibbles then comes, and Doc tells Stuffy that he doesn't have to ask a pet questions, as a machine scans and certifies her as a good boy. Doc reveals the machine as the Good Boy 9.5, which gives pets encouragement and plays with them, so Stuffy doesn't have to. However, Stuffy states that usually he plays fetch with Squibbles.
This ends the tour of the upgraded hospital. Pickles states that it's a lot different from Doc's clinic at home and how the hospital used to be. Although it will take some time to get used to, the big changes will make it so that every toy can get the best medical care and in record time. Pickles is unsure, but eventually believes Doc and gets ready for her checkup. It looks like everything in the hospital is taken care of when Doc is called for help with a patient. Stuffy, Chilly, and Lambie will take a well-deserved break, although they haven't done any work yet. They tell Hallie that they're bored of the new hospital and explain the reasons why while concluding they've been replaced. Hallie is sure that's not true, as no one can take their place, as they're dependable when needed.
Scarlet from the Toyarctic arrives and asks if she can find the machine that's supposed to give her a checkup. The toys then bring her to the new Check-Up 3000. The machine then calms Stuart down before giving her the checkup while singing the song itself. So far, Scarlet is in perfect health. The machine tells her to step outside to schedule her next checkup before she leaves. She states that an apple a day keeps the machine programmed to provide state-of-the-art medical care away. Doc finds the toys, and Stuart tells her that the experience was different; it's not like when Doc performs checkups.
Just then, Robot Ray calls Doc on her toysponder and informs her of a distress call from the Toyarctic. A large chunk of ice unexpectedly broke off with several toys on it, and is floating out to sea. Although it will be a pretty tricky rescue, Doc and her toys will head out to the Toyarctic immediately, and Stuart will come along, as the Toyarctic is her home. Doc states that while they're gone, the hospital can pretty much run itself. She was worried about the changes at first, but that's the cool thing about the new tech. Everyone then heads to the Toyarctic.
During the ride, Doc thanks Sir Kirby and Army Al for joining. They then come across waves caused by the iceberg. Revel and Mumbo are on it and need to be saved. Rescue Ronda carries Doc and Lambie to the iceberg to rescue Revel and Mumbo. Revel states she hurt her foot when she slipped on the ice, and now she's having trouble walking. Since Mumbo is too big for the basket, Rescue Ronda ties a rope to the iceberg and pulls it to the Toyarctic. Mumbo thanks Doc for the help. However, when Rescue Ronda lands, the ice starts to break and she takes off immediately and heads back to the boat. Stuart states that something is definitely wrong and Doc decides to figure out why the ice is cracking. Stuart knows something that might have the answers.
Everyone heads there and Doc notices everything melting. Stuffy slips and bumps into a the Toyarctic thermometer, which is all the way up to red. That has never happened in the Toyarctic. Normally, it is in the blue, which means cold. That's why the ice has been cracking. Chilly is scared about melting, but the other toys comfort him. Stuart states that the situation was never worse than that. The other toys then arrive and complain about the unbearable heat. They sing about what they should do with everything melting. Also, when there's no snow, icebergs break away and sink, leaving the toys without a home.
Doc and Scarlet decide for everyone to find out what's causing the heat wave quickly. If they follow the melting, it will lead to the cause of the melting. Chilly doesn't want to go, but Lambie cuddles him and tells him he's the best snowman she knows. Hallie is also supportive. Soon, everyone comes across the source of the heat. While everyone else stays, Doc and Army Al get lowered down. Doc then sees a big power cord just like one Mom would plug in at home but ten times the size and twenty times as hot. Doc then sees the McStuffinsville logo and notices that that is the cord that runs all the way to the town and supplies it with electricity. Doc decides to call Robot Ray to find out why it's running to hot.
Robot Ray scans the McStuffinsville power grid and finds out why the power cord is overheating; the town is currently using way too much power, causing the cord to overheat. The main source of the power drain is the McStuffinsville Toy Hospital. Doc and Army Al head back, and Doc tells everyone that all the new technology at the hospital uses way more power than the cord can handle. Doc apologizes to Scarlet for putting the entire Toyarctic in danger. Scarlet tells Doc it's okay, as she didn't know that what she did in her town could effect everyone in the Toyarctic. Doc should have known, but she got carried away but all the new machines and what they could do. Doc and Scarlet decide for everyone to save the Toyarctic by cooling down the cord. Just then, rumbling occurs, and the ground is melting away. Everyone tries to run to safety, but Sir Kirby falls and is saved by Scarlet. Doc carries Chilly to safety, as well. With the melting getting worse, the best rescue team will save the Toyarctic. Doc calls Robot Ray, who tells her that all of McStuffinsville must power down to turn off the cord now. It will take several hours. After Doc mentions a power switch, Stuart states that she used to pass by a switch next to a big orange plug while she was sledding. It's on the edge of the tundra, and Scarlet thinks she can do so. During this time, the others will split up and get all of the arctic toys out of danger and onto the ship.
Hallie and Stuffy hear howling in the distance. After Hallie rescues Stuffy from a fall, they come across a wolf who is in danger, as he is on thin ice. Stuffy and Hallie guide him through the ice as it breaks. As Hallie and the wolf make it to safety, Stuffy runs and they make it to safety. The wolf hugs Hallie and Stuffy. Meanwhile, Chilly is still afraid of melting, but Sir Kirby tells him he is braver than he thinks. They then come across a polar bear stuck on an iceberg. Chilly and Sir Kirby tip an iceberg for the bear to cross. Chilly likes the snow that isn't melted, but Sir Kirby sees an avalanche coming. Everyone runs away but the avalanche carries them away. Chilly then gets saved by the Dude. The snowpeeps also come to the rescue, as they came to visit the Toyarctic for the boarding When they noticed the melting, they came to help.
Meanwhile, Doc and the other toys are rescuing everyone else. As the toys head across a path, Lambie notices ice about to block it, but is nervous to tell it to Doc. The toys run to safety as the ice falls. Lambie rescues a seal, as well. The toys all run to safety right before the ice falls. They then notice Chilly warning everyone about an avalanche. Everyone then runs to the boat as the avalanche continues. Chilly likes to go somewhere warm for a while. Doc states that although everyone is scared and confused, whatever happens next, she will make sure they will get out of the Toyarctic safely, and she promises to do everything she can to protect it.
Glaciers then break apart and slide into the water. That would block the boat's path, and Doc states that they need to make it out to sea before that happens. The toys tell Doc that all the toys are accounted for except for Scarlet, who is still busy with the power cord. Doc calls her, and she was able to find the switch. It needs to arms to pull it, and one of her arms won't move. Doc will come to the rescue while the others get the boat out to the ocean before the glaciers melt and trap everyone there.
Scarlet has no luck pulling the switch when Doc arrives. Doc checks Scarlet's damaged arm, and questions if Scarlet was in any pain before she stopped moving. Scarlet doesn't think so, but her arm kept squeaking due to overuse. Doc uses sunscreen to make the joints more slippery. It works, and Doc and Scarlet flip the switch together to save the Toyarctic and turn off McStuffinsville. The Wicked King immediately realizes this, as do the other toys. The machines also power down.
Doc and Scarlet are about to leave when ice melts. Doc and Scarlet grab onto the cord when Stuffy and the other toys come to the rescue. Hallie lowers a ladder for Doc and Scarlet to climb to safety. Doc and her toys decide to go to McStuffinsville to help everyone. Doc will drop Scarlet off at the boat, as Scarlet wants to stay with the arctic toys during the journey. Rescue Ronda then carries everyone to the boat before it heads to McStuffinsville. Doc and her toys notice more ice melting before returning to the hospital.
They then notice the town very dark. Chilly is scared, but gets motivated by Lambie. Rescue Ronda states it's hard to fly in the dark. She then heads towards Flicker the firefly, who leads the way to safety. Doc thanks Flicker for the help. He then decides to fly to shore and be the boats' firefly lighthouse. Doc and her toys get downstairs to the hospital. One of the patients tells them about the power outage making everything a mess. All the other toys look scared, as well, and Doc tells them that McStuffinsville is in a blackout, which is her fault. She decided to turn off all the power as it was the only way to save the toys in the Toyarctic. Too much electricity was used in the Toyarctic and it was making the toys' home heat up and melt away. Although the hospital is dark, the toys inside it are not, as they will shine through the night. Just because the power is out and the fancy machines are down doesn't mean Doc can't take care of the toys of McStuffinsville. Doc tells the toys about her backyard clinic back home, and they remember. All Doc had then was a stethoscope and a whole lotta love, and she treated them all just fine. The toys recap what Doc did to them.
Doc had one more special thing back in the clinic: her toys, who decide to help. Doc tells Chilly that nothing could replace him or the other toys. Doc decides for them to start seeing patients the old-fashioned way, just like they did before the fancy machines. They then sing about the best medicine being love, no matter what. Soon, everything is accomplished, and Scarlet arrives with the other toys in the Toyarctic. Doc reassures them that they will get checkups right away. Scarlet's arm is stuck again, and she has sticky-arm-itis, meaning her arm rubbed together from overuse and got stuck. Scarlet states she didn't tell the Check-Up 3000 machine about the squeaking earlier because it just asked if she had any pain, not any squeaking. Doc states it didn't ask the right questions, and if she had done it herself, she would have heard the squeaking and be able to make the right diagnosis. Doc vows to see all of her patients personally going forward. Scarlet is delighted to hear it, and Doc uses oil to make Scarlet's arm back to normal, and she feels better.
The lights return, meaning McStuffinsville is back on. Robot Ray calls Doc and tells her that the hospital's backup power generator has kicked in. That's the best news Doc heard all day. The other toys notice this. Doc tells everyone that it's best to leave all the machines off now that they use way too much electricity. Lambie states that using too much power can damage the world around everyone, even places that are far away. Doc states she got caught up in the fancy stuff she forgot what doctoring is all about: a doctor listening to a patient. Doc forgot how good it feels to connect with the toys who come to the hospital looking for help. No machine can replace a doctor's personal touch.
Doc and her toys then check on some very special patients. Doc tells Revel, whose right foot is still hurting, that she needs to be kept off her feet for a couple of days and she'll be fine. As for the Toyarctic, Doc apologizes to everyone for what happened and promises that everyone in McStuffinsville will do everything they can to rebuild the home. Doc vows to never let it melt anymore, as it is precious. Everyone is delighted to hear it. Later, Doc tells the Wicked King while riding Rescue Ronda that the hospital is still state-of-the-art, just in other ways. Doc reveals she installed solar panels, which take the sun's energy and turn it into electricity. That, plus the exclusion of the power-draining new machines, will keep the Toyarctic from melting again. The toys in the Toyarctic call Doc and tell her that things are much better now. Construction is almost finished on the rebuilt village, and everyone sees it. Doc sees it better than ever, as it's all thanks to her and everyone else from McStuffinsville who helped them rebuild. They then decide to sledding while Scarlet decides to return soon for her next checkup. The Wicked King praises Doc for the solar panels, and Doc is called to the hospital for Pickles needing a checkup. Doc brings her to the exam room while stating that she has all the time in the world for her patients.
