"The Hitchhiker's Ride Through the Galaxy" is the second segment of the twenty-eighth episode of Miles from Tomorrowland. It premiered on November 21, 2015 alongside "Escape from the Tethoscape".

Plot[]

In the Tethoscape, Miles and M.E.R.C. are seeing the different food in the Floovox Grille, and wonder which one Loretta would like. Lysander then picks out nebula nuggets, which Miles thinks are delicious. Lysander says that he made a big batch for a party in the Parlimentron system today, and needs to scramble out of the Tethoscape. Lysander also put in a couple of extras for Miles' parents, who went to drop off supplies on Planet Fraylak while Loretta does research in the holo-library. Miles and M.E.R.C. decide to give Loretta the snacks when they see something that catches their attention: Professor Rubicon demonstrating The Builders, aliens that left clues all over the galaxy, but wonders what they were trying to tell us. Rubicon is the host of the Tomorrowland Science Conference on Planet Alarbus. There, new discoveries about The Builders will be unveiled, including a historic discovery by Loretta. Miles thinks that she is famous.

Miles and M.E.R.C. bring Loretta the snacks, which she thanks them for. She then shows them what she will be showing to everyone at the Tomorrowland Science Conference: the pictures of all of the Builders' rocks that Rubicon and Loretta found. If Loretta puts two pieces together, they will connect, and if all are put in the right order, they will all connect, like a puzzle. Miles wonders if the Builders were sending everyone a message. However, when the pieces are not in the right order, they flash red. This disappoints Loretta, who really thought she would have the puzzle put together by now, and Rubicon is counting on her to show it at the conference. Miles also realizes that they will be late to it if Phoebe and Leo do not arrive soon.

Miles then contacts his parents, who have just finished dropping off the supplies on Fraylak when Leo finds out that the Stellosphere's engines are broken. The repairs will take a while, and Phoebe and Leo are too far away to pick up Miles, Loretta, and M.E.R.C. with the Star Jetter, so they will not be taking them to the conference. Miles finds out that they have friends all over the universe, like Lysander, and they could catch a ride with him. Phoebe tells Miles that she and Leo will do everything they can to get to the conference on time.

After Miles informs Lysander about needing a ride to Alarbus, Lysander says that although he is not going all the way there, he is heading in that direction, and Miles says that he, Loretta, and M.E.R.C. will find another ride for the rest of the way. Loretta decides to make a quick call to Rubicon, stating that although she is running late, she will be there as soon as she can. Lysander then takes his ship away from the Tethoscape.

Loretta is still struggling with the puzzle, and Miles wonders if the message is a recipe for Builders food. Lysander tells Loretta that a good recipe is definitely worth passing on to future generations, but before he gets cooking, he needs to get organized. This is critically important, because Lysander has to make sure all of his ingredients are sorted before he can make a tasty treat. Loretta thinks of the pieces as ingredients that she needs to organize. Miles starts looking for the next ride, and Lysander informs them that they have arrived at the Funkodrome, home to Bootjet Groovestar. Lysander informs him that he packed all of his favorite party platters and some friends in need of a favor. Miles tells Bootjet that they need a ride to Alarbus, and he accepts.

Miles tells Loretta that they are making great time, and they will be at the conference before she knows it. However, even with all of the pieces organized, Loretta still can not figure out the puzzle. Bootjet gives her advice: after getting organized, Bootjet needs to try some things, try some other things, and repeat the process until he makes his groove funky. Loretta tries the different things while Bootjet plays his guitar-o-tronic. However, Bootjet's ship's electrical system gets fried as a result of Bootjet playing too much funk. Bootjet only has enough backup power to get back to his planet. He also informs everyone that they are in the middle of the Dethalian system, and Miles knows who to call.

Miles, Loretta, and M.E.R.C. meet up with Queen Gemma in her ship again. Gemma reveals that her son, Prince Rygan, is out practicing quantum kick, as he should be. Miles offers her a ride to Alarbus, and Gemma accepts, since she has been told that she should be friendlier to others. What is so urgent is that Loretta has a presentation to give, and it is starting soon. Gemma then contacts the pilot to depart for Alarbus immediately.

Taking the advice from Bootjet, Loretta decides to try different things, like Bootjet does when he is making music. Loretta is finding a perfect rhythm when all of the pieces flash red, upsetting her. Loretta then informs Gemma of the situation, and wonders what is wrong. Gemma tells her that the Dethalians did not become the pre-eminent fleet of the galaxy by luck, but by keeping things simple with no complications, no distractions, and no messiness. Gemma suggests that Loretta steps back and keeps it simple. Miles tells her to hurry because they have arrived at Alarbus. Loretta then finds out that because some rocks have different shapes, they are not part of the puzzle. She then keeps it simple, and the remaining pieces fit together, glowing green as a result. Loretta thought they were supposed to send a message when Gemma's ship arrives at the Skyrise Space Elevator to the conference. Miles and Loretta decide to ride M.E.R.C. the rest of the way, and thank Gemma for the lift.

The Tomorrowland Science Conference begins, and Rubicon talks about the Builders and Loretta showing everyone their latest discoveries. Just then, Loretta, Miles, and M.E.R.C. arrive, and while Miles and M.E.R.C. head to the audience, Loretta thanks everyone. Before beginning her speech, Loretta thanks Miles, who made it his personal mission to bring them here. As Phoebe and Leo arrive, Loretta says that the Callistos' mission for the Tomorrowland Transit Authority is to connect the universe, and today, she understands how important those connections are. Miles tells his parents that they had a lot of help getting here.

Loretta states that their friends went out of their way to help them, and the Builders believed in making connections, as well, with one way being to leave them the space rocks. If put together like a puzzle, they send a message. Just as Loretta says no message has appeared, the puzzle activates five of the Builders rocks, which form together to create a message, one from the Builders that Loretta and Miles were looking for. Loretta then translates the message: "Search for this portal. A doorway to our galaxy. Be careful." Miles believes that the Builders invited them for a visit.
