"The Incredible Shrinking Royals" is the fifty-third episode of the Disney Channel animated series Elena of Avalor. It premiered on October 10, 2019 and is the fourth episode in the third season.
Plot[]
Carmen and Julio are on their way to Avalor Palace to present Julio's ideas for the Feast of Friendship. When they get there, they find Dona Paloma already there presenting her ideas even though she wasn't supposed to be there. Turns out, Dona Paloma had lied and said Julio sent her. Julio presents his idea to hold the Feast of Friendship in the Sunbird Temple with all the rulers themselves in attendance, much to the displeasure of Dona Paloma (for not having the Feast at her emporium like always) and Chancellor Esteban (for not being invited). Out of self-interest and greed, Dona Paloma objects, stating Julio is not of the right background. Elena tells her backgrounds are not important: ideas are. Elena approves of Julio's plans. Feeling slighted, Dona Paloma plots with Chancellor Esteban to sabotage the Feast by inviting King Hector.
On the day of the Feast, Elena arrives followed by King Toshi, Princess Valentina, and Queen Abigail. To everyone's horror, King Hector shows up. Since Julio didn't invite him, Elena wants to make him leave. However, Julio doesn't want to as that could make problems for the Kingdom. Julio leads everyone inside the Sunbird Temple and explains that the Maruvians held all their matters of diplomacy in the Temple as it has a magic that gets unleashed whenever anyone is loud and rude, thus requiring all attending to be civil and quiet. Hector is loud, rude, and obnoxious the whole time which culminates in him throwing a tantrum when Queen Abigail sits at the head of the table, the spot he always wants. This causes the magic to get unleashed and everyone except Julio and Carmen, who are both outsides, to shrink down to the size of dolls.
When Carmen and Julio get back, they discover what happened. Dona Paloma blames Julio for his background. Elena reminds her it doesn't matter where you come from but what you do once you're there. Julio sends Carmen to get Mateo. A crayfish gets loose and attacks the group. During the chase, Esteban and Dona Paloma argue about who's to blame for inviting Hector in the first place only for Elena to hear, and she becomes furious with them, especially her cousin. Julio rescues everyone with the replica of Hector's Wave Smasher and by using a thread from one of Abigail's dresses as rope. Mateo restores the Royals to their proper sizes. Elena says Julio led the best Feast of Friendship "despite some interference", glaring angrily at Dona Paloma and Esteban. Afterwards, the Feast of Friendship resumes.
