The Incredibles: Jack-Jack's Escape is a video game released on select in-flight services based on the 2004 Disney/Pixar animated film The Incredibles developed by Global Eagle Entertainment under license by Disney Interactive Studios.

Plot[]

Picking up where the events of the original Incredibles film left off, the Underminer confronts the Parr family and Frozone, and threatens to wreck the city of Metroville. As Elastigirl is attempting to stop the Underminer, she notices that her baby Jack-Jack, has found his way into the Underminer's base inside his drill machine in an attempt to help him stop the Underminer from destroying the city. Jack-Jack navigates his way across the driller machine and then manages to destroy it, causing Elastigirl to be proud of him for stopping the Underminer.

Gameplay[]

The player must help Jack-Jack navigate his way through the Underminer's driller machine using the arrow keys on the remote control or the touch screen so he can reach the exit to help him stop the Underminer by solving puzzles to create a path for him. Throughout gameplay, Jack-Jack encounters types of elements inside the drill machine, such as pistons that help him reach certain parts of the game or push him to reach other parts of the area, fans that can push him and prevent him from bypassing the area, or pipes that can help him reach another area.

The primary item in the game is the power-up (represented by an emblem seen on the Incredibles' red suits). The player must have Jack-Jack crawl towards the emblem to collect it and then press the action button to activate it. The game includes three types of power-ups: the fire power-up gives Jack-Jack the ability to burn wooden panels (though it can be disabled when he approaches air blown by a fan obstacle), the metal power-up gives him the ability to break through metal grates or temporarily disable pistons and push and force them down to their base (can also help him withstand the air blown by fans), and the gas power-up allows him to float in the air through grates (also ideal for him to reach hard to reach places). The player can only hold one power-up in their inventory at a time, meaning they must use the power-up first before collecting another one. The more the gameplay goes, the harder the layout becomes, giving the player more time to think of creating a solution of helping Jack-Jack find the exit door.

In addition to these, the player will find collectible items along the way - consisting of a rattle, a baby bottle, and a teddy bear respectively, which can be found in several parts of a level (except for the tutorial level). By collecting these items, they will be stored in the inventory showcasing Jack-Jack's power-up and these items are required for a full game completion.

Characters[]

Achievements[]

During gameplay, the player can earn achievements upon completing a certain task, which are required for a full game completion:

  • Baby Baubles: Get all 3 collectibles in a single level.
  • Bambino Inferno: Burn 20 wooden platforms
  • Full Metal Diaper: Temporarily interrupt 5 different pistons.
  • No Capes: Spend total of 2 minutes airborne.
  • Coddled Toddler: Get all 3 collectibles in every stage.

Trivia[]

  • Like in The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer, the plots of Jack-Jack's Escape were later contradicted in the 2018 sequel, Incredibles 2, three years after the game's release, where it is shown that the Underminer escaped during his fight against the Parr family where they were unable to stop him.
  • One of the achievements in the game, "No Capes", is a reference to one of Edna Mode's lines from the original film, although she is absent in the game.
  • Although the "Introduction" page states that the Underminer has an army of robot henchmen known as Drillbots, they do not physically appear in the game, making them nonexistent in the franchise.
  • Dash, Violet, Mr, Incredible, Elastigirl, and Frozone, and the Underminer himself appear in cutscenes - although the Underminer's driller affects the game's plot with Jack-Jack navigating himself through the machine to stop the Underminer from destroying the city.
  • Level 1 is the only level in the game that does not record how much time the player took to complete the level, due to the fact that it was presented in the style of a tutorial level in the first place.
  • The comic book style cutscenes used in the game were designed by Philippe G Ramsay.[2]
