The Insider is a 1999 biographical drama film directed, co-written, and co-produced by Michael Mann and based on the Vanity Fair article "The Man Who Knew Too Much". It stars Al Pacino, Russell Crowe, Christopher Plummer, Diane Venora, Philip Baker Hall, Lindsay Crouse, and Debi Mazar.
Synopsis[]
Based on the 60 Minutes segment, a whistleblower from the tobacco company decides to go on national television to expose the company, only for him and the lead reporter to come under fire from every which way.

Trivia[]
- The real Jeffrey Wigand had two requests: His daughters names be changed for the film, and that no smoking be featured. While the first was granted, filmmakers managed to slide with the second as smoking is seen three times in the film.
- Val Kilmer was up for the role of Wigand.
