"The Jig is Up" is the first segment of the twentieth episode of the Disney Channel animated series, The Ghost and Molly McGee.
Synopsis[]
When the Ghost Council discovers joy in Brighton, Scratch must keep Molly out of harm’s way.
Plot[]
Molly puts together a video presentation to convince the need to create a factory for wind turbines in Brighton. Following it's success, she informs Scratch that they will be spending the day celebrating with a ribbon cutting, parade and ice cream, which pleases him. However, Scratch suddenly gets called away to the Ghost Council, but tells Molly that he will be back soon. The Ghost Council ask Scratch why joy in Brighton has risen. He attempts to cover by saying that he has been spreading misery efficiently, but later claims that he was just being lazy. Unsatisfied, the Council hire Jinx, a joy hunter, to go back to Brighton with him and see where the joy may be coming from.
Scratch is forced to drag Jinx around town and tries to avoid Molly; only briefly interacting with her whenever he manages to get Jinx distracted or far away from her. He manages to show her the worst parts of Brighton, which satisfies Jinx, but she is still perturbed by the overabundance of joy. Scratch admits that he is unsure why spreading misery is so significant and Jinx reveals that misery feeds the Chairman; news that surprises Scratch (he admits that he slept through ghost orientation). He finally tells her that he learned the error of his ways for his laziness and Jinx leaves, telling him that she will try to talk to the Council about giving him another chance.
Scratch returns to Molly to finally have ice cream, only for Jinx to show up; still not satisfied with why there is so much joy in Brighton. Her radar finally picks up Molly as the source of all the joy and pulls out a scythe with the intent to "remove" her from Brighton. Scratch stands in her way and Jinx, realizing his connection to her, tells him that he will be punished for befriending a human and drags him back to the ghost realm to presumably be sent to the flow of failed phantoms. As Molly is left heartbroken, the title card at the end appears with the The Ghost part suddenly turning to dust.
