"The Jungle Rhythm" is the opening song featured in the film, The Jungle Book 2. It is sung by Mowgli who is attempting to convince Shanti and the children of the Man Village the jungle where he was raised is not as bad as the adults say. During the end of the song, Shanti warns Mowgli not to go to the jungle without permission, because of the dangers encountered in this area.
A reprise is sung by Mowgli in solo after overhearing the conversation between Baloo and the animals in the ruins about Mowgli's encounter with Shanti.
The song was also included in the 2003 DVD edition of Disney Sing Along Songs: Circle of Life.
Lyrics[]
Mowgli: That morning sun peeks over the mountains
And all the rhinos rub their eyes
When they hear
(Ranjan: Hear what?)
Hear the jungle rhythm
Those birds are tap-tap-tappin' the tree trunks
The busy bee hums as he flies
Loud and clear
To the jungle rhythm
Now you can hightail it out of the jungle
But it never leaves your heart
First. you feel that beat start bubbling under
Then you hear the tom-toms loud as thunder
(villagers chant)
It's moving me!
Sounds a lot like being free
(with chorus)
When you feel
Feel the jungle rhythm
Feel the jungle rhythm
(Come on, Shanti!)
Can't do without rhythm
And when it fills the air
Animals everywhere
Join in the dance
(Shanti: Hey! Give me that!)
You'll dance along with 'em
Feeling it steal your soul
Male Villager: We'll stomp our paws!
Female Villager: Flap our wings!
Mowgli: Maybe do one or two crazy things
Ranjan: (imitating a parrot) Caw Caw!
(Mowgli: Yeah that's it!)
Ooh-ahh, ooh-ahh!
(imitating a wolf) Awoo!
(blows on a horn to imitate an elephant)
Villagers: (imitating monkeys) Eep! Eep! Eep!
Ranjan: Caw! Caw!
Villagers: Eep! Eep! Eep!
(chanting) Ooh Chika Chika Boom!
Eep! Eep! Eep!
Ranjan: A-whoo!
(rhythmic animal chants)
Villagers: Boom-a-chaka, boom-a-chaka,
Boom-a-chaka, boom-a-chaka, boom!
All: Check out those chat-chat-chattering monkeys
Swinging through the banyan trees
Two by two (two by two)
To the jungle rhythm
(Boom-chaka-chaka, boom!)
Sounds like a wolf pack way in the distance
Singing pretty harmonies
Woo-woo-woo (woo-woo-woo)
To the jungle rhythm
Mowgli: Yeah! That's it!
All: Now you can hightail it out of the jungle
But it never leaves your heart
First, you feel that beat start bubbling under
Then you hear the tom toms loud as thunder
(Mowgli: It's moving me!)
Sounds a lot like being free
When I feel...
(When I feel) (3x)
Feel the jungle rhythm! (5x)
Mowgli: That morning sun peeks over the mountains
And all the rhinos rub their eyes
When they hear
Hear the jungle rhythm
How could it be
Half as good as being free
Part of me
Like the jungle rhythm
Like the jungle rhythm
