Jupiterinloneranger

The Jupiter is a steam locomotive that was owned by the Western Pacific railroad and appears in The Lone Ranger.

Role in the film[]

In the film, the locomotive was first seen idled at Promontory, Utah for the Transcontinental Railroad event alongside another steam locomotive, The Constitution.

When Tonto stole the Constitution, the Jupiter sped into pursuit of its fellow train.

When Tonto knocks Cole down, holds him at gun point with his own gun and then throws back the cheap pocket watch which Cole had paid him twenty six years earlier in return for showing him and Cavendish the location of the silver, telling him it was a "bad trade", the Jupiter then derails off the wooden trestle bridge and plunges into the river below where Cole drowns.

A few days later after the Transcontinental Railroad, and The Great Train Chase, it is unknown if either the locomotive is already rescued or if it just remained there in its sunken state until it was rescued after a certain amount of time had passed.

Trivia[]
