One day, Timon and Pumbaa are waiting for Simba at Pride Rock for a whole afternoon of Hakuna Matata, but an hour passes and he still hasn't showed up. While Timon complains he forgot them, Simba arrives after helping an elephant herd that slipped on banana peels (obviously thrown by the monkeys).
While the three friends head out into the Pride Lands, Zazu informs Simba that some cubs have their heads stuck in a tree from trying to catch grubs (having obviously been taught by Timon), causing Simba to leave in order to take care of the situation. Before he leaves, Pumbaa asks him if he likes being King because of all his responsibilities. Simba claims he does because he'll be doing things that matter.
Timon calls Simba a bore and runs off with Pumbaa to catch grubs, until Pumbaa notices some heat. He looks behind him and sees some grass on fire, which Timon realizes will spread easily with all the dry grass around. Pumbaa sends Timon to the Water Hole to get help, while he stays behind to keep other animals away. After defending a herd of zebras, Timon returns with a herd of elephants to put out the fires.
Simba arrives and congratulates the two of them for handling things by themselves. He offers the two of them the position of fire patrol in exchange for lightening up a little and the three friends head off to the water hole to enjoy the rest of the afternoon.
