"The Mushroom Prince" is the first segment of the fourth episode of Billy Dilley's Super-Duper Subterranean Summer.

Synopsis[]

Marsha starts a newsletter about Subterranea-Tania and Billy is desperate to know what she's written about him.

Plot[]

Billy and Zeke's television time is interrupted by Marsha who tells them that she has decided to start a new newspaper called the Subterranea-Tania Times and that she needs to look for an interesting story. Billy leads her to a giant mushroom patch which Marsha is at first uninterested in until Billy introduces her to the Woozies, small furry firefly like creatures. The Woozies begin whispering something into Marsha's ear and she writes it down in her journal. Billy wants to know what she has written down, but she refuses to tell him as she is a journalist and she is not at liberty to reveal her writings. Billy selfishly decides to sneak away and steal her journal as he believes that he will transform into a giant question mark shaped brain.

Billy tries and fails miserably at stealing Marsha's journal. Catching on to his scheme, Marsha decides to play a prank on Billy with Zeke's help. Marsha leaves a fake journal for Billy to find while she and Zeke "leave" for a while. Billy reads the journal and discovers that the Woozies have made him the mushroom prince. Donning a mushroom themed prince outfit, Billy decides to take his rightful place as the heir with Marsha finding the situation amusing. They head to the mushroom patch where Zeke is and he tells Billy that he is not the prince anymore. Billy reads the rest of the journal and learns that since he has read the "truth", the magic is gone and he will have to give the title of mushroom prince over to Zeke.

Billy is furious until Marsha tells him that it was all a ruse. She finally reveals that the Woozies thought that Billy smelled like garbage. Billy admits that he had made Woozie repellent and sprays it all over himself, Marsha and Zeke. The Woozies instead chase the three and Billy realizes he mislabeled the can. After escaping, Billy apologizes to Marsha and wonders what a real mushroom prince would be like. To their surprise, the real Mushroom Prince appears and furious at their deception transforms the three into fungi. The spell wears off and Marsha completes her newspaper, though she only printed one and it gets eaten by a Troggie.
