"The One with Mr. Reason" is the first segment of the fifty-third episode of Pepper Ann. It aired on September 9, 2000 on Disney's One Saturday Morning block on ABC.

Synopsis[]

It's a new semester and Pepper Ann is assigned woodshop with Mr. Reason, a teacher who uses tough love to make his students excel, which Pepper Ann doesn't like.

Plot[]

Pepper Ann is excited about starting the new school semester until she learns that she has shop class with Mr. Reason who is notoriously harsh. Nicky and Milo tell her to give him a chance, but she finds herself intimidated by his blunt and curt directions as well as the class itself. Later, Pepper Ann is told to climb a rope in gym, sing a solo in school choir and, to make things more complicated, now has to ask someone to the Sadie Hawkins dance; making the semester much more complicated than she needed it to be.

Pepper Ann gets the idea to create a petition to stop having shop class be a requirement and manages to get numerous signatures from everyone, minus Milo and Nicky. When she presents the petition to Mr. Reason, he leaves without a fight and decides to retire early; forcing Principal Hickey to have Ms. Bladdar replace him. Pepper Ann, happy over her victory, climbs the rope, sings a solo and asks Craig to Sadie Hawkins. Milo and Nicky point out that Mr. Reason's teaching methods worked on her and Pepper Ann decides to go and ask him back.

Pepper Ann finds Mr. Reason working at Burger Fortress (he could not afford his fishing boat) and Pepper Ann demands that he return, before accusing him of "taking the easy way out". Pepper Ann proceeds to do the work in shop class while the rest of the class sits around under Ms. Bladdar's watch. Mr. Reason finally returns and gives the students a rousing speech about pushing themselves to the limit. Everyone decides to take the class seriously once he offers them Burger Fortress fries.

Trivia[]

  • This segment, along with its sister segment, was only aired twice on ABC before the series left Disney's One Saturday Morning block; it wouldn't air again until the series entered syndication on Toon Disney and Disney Channel.
  • Kurtwood Smith is miscredited as "Kirtwood" Smith.
  • Pepper Ann actually recognizes that the lesson came from someone instead of assuming that she made it up herself as she has done previously.
