"The Pirates, the Parrot, the Puzzles and the Talking Boats" is the fifth double-length special episode, the first episode of the second season, and the second season premiere of Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero. It premiered on July 10, 2017.
Synopsis[]
After a recap of the events of the first season, Penn, Sashi, and Boone are sent to a pirate world where the whales act as the ships. Penn must get to a treasure before Rippen does, but finds himself teaming with a competitive female pirate in the process.
Plot[]
The episode starts with a comic, narrated by Phyllis, where Penn's parents fight with the creatures in the Most Dangerous World Imaginable. Phyllis in the control panel is unable to close the portal, so the parents have to close it from their side so their world is safe from the dangerous world's evil energy. Vonnie tells Phyllis to take care of Penn as she tosses a device that closes the portal, preventing the creatures from entering their world, but also trapping themselves in. Broken shards from the dangerous world's fabric get scattered across the multiverse, with Penn finding one of them in the Nothingness. So, when he, Sashi, and Boone returned, Phyllis took the crystal from Penn and brought it to a control panel. Penn, impatient, repeatedly asks Phyllis if it's working, so she tells Penn it takes three crystals to triangulate the Most Dangerous World Imaginable, so she needs two more crystals.
Penn, Sashi, and Boone are reading the comic as Penn wonders how will he get the two shards, so Phyllis tells him she is adjusting his MUHU to detect shards when they are on a mission, but it's not ready yet, so he has to work as normal. Penn tells her he wants his parents back and asks her to stop making professional comics. Phyllis takes away Old Man Middleburg's comic and then goes to the Multi-Universe Transprojector's control panel via grappling hook to zap the heroes in.
Penn zaps as a pirate, looking at his pirate look, and goes goes to see the view from his boat. Sashi, as a parrot, lands on Penn's shoulder as he tells her she has a nice beak, annoying her as she tells him to save his insults, talking like a parrot. Penn tries to find Boone, so Boone tells them they are under him, revealing himself to be the boat they are riding on, being half-whale, half-boat. Penn asks Sashi to check her specs, with Sashi repeating the line twice and later saying she is annoying. She then checks her specs to tell the mission; Penn is a pirate who has to retrieve a map from the pirate Woodbeard and then search for the treasure and safely get it away from Woodbeard. Sashi then repeates her last lines, leading Boone to chuckle, causing Penn to get lifted by his hidden blowhole. After landing, Penn asks Sashi to look for Woodbeard's ship since she is a bird. He then starts talking with a pirate accent, so Sashi asks him if he is gonna talk like the whole time, which he says he doesn't has to. Sashi then flies up, spotting Woodbeard's ship far away.
Larry, being half-boat, half-shark and Woodbeard's ship, asks Rippen, being Woodbeard, what sound sharks make as he attempts to sound like a shark. Rippen, looking at Sashi via telescope, laughs at her being a parrot and then shows Larry the treasure map, saying they have the advantage of searching the treasure. However, Boone appears in front of the two, with Penn swinging from a rope and landing on Larry. Penn quickly takes the treasure map as he dodges Rippen's attacks, with Rippen throwing his cutlass at Penn, but he dodges it and stabs Boone's tail, allowing Penn to jump up the boat using the cutlass as a pole. Penn then shows Rippen he stole his belt, causing his pants to fall off and revealing underpants made of wood. However, a half-dolphin, half-boat appears jumping high as a pirate swings from a rope and takes the treasure map (and also his belt) Penn took and returning to their boat before they both land on the water. Penn reads the note that replaced the map, reading "Thanks for the Map (and your belt)", written by a "better pirate". Penn commands Boone to go after the "better pirate", so he swims and chases the half-dolphin, half-boat.
Boone starts singing while they are chasing the half-dolphin, half-boat, while also being chased by Rippen and Larry. They end up in front of a waterfall, so Boone saves the half-dolphin, half-boat by biting her tail. Rippen tells Larry to ram them, so they fall off the waterfall so Rippen can swing over and grab the treasure map. Sashi sees a group of parrots flying, so she flies to them and commands them to follow her. Then, she leads the parrots in front of Larry to distract him, leading him and Rippen to fall off waterfall, preventing them from ramming into boone and the half-dolphin, half-boat.
Penn lands on the half-dolphin, half-boat and confronts the pirate for taking his treasure map. The pirate lands in front of Penn, revealing that the pirate is a woman. Penn then steps back as the pirate comes to him as Penn becomes nervous, telling her that pirates can be female. The pirate then tells him she was just messing with him and thanks him for saving her and her ship. She the introduces herself as Maria and her ship also called Maria, with Boone pointing out they have the same name. The boat Maria says that's confusing much as Sashi repeats that line. The pirate Maria brings him the map, saying the way they chase and save her and her ship impressed her and that she will become good from now, which Penn tells her he is glad being an inspiration for her. Maria and her ship depart from the heroes, with the boat Maria complimenting Boone. Penn says it feels good for making a difference as he checks out the map, only to find out to be actually an advertisement for an "eyebrow enhancer", annoying Penn, saying his eyebrows are his best features.
The pirate and boat Marias swim away as the pirate Maria opens the map, but Sashi, flying, tries to take the map from her. Maria compliments Sashi, but she tells her to save her compliments for idiots as she tears half of the map and flies away with it. Sashi brings the map to Penn as they see both Marias emerging from the water. Penn tells the pirate Maria she can't find the treasure with only half of the map, so Maria tells him he can't find the map with his half of the map either. Penn tells her he got one X and two riddles, so Maria tells him he got two X's and one riddle. Penn suggest they should team up and find the treasure together, so Sashi tells him he can't trust Maria, so Penn tells he can handle this. Maria tells him he can't handle it, but he got himself a deal.
Larry climbs up the waterfall as Rippen tells him they will let the heroes and both Marias search for the treasure, so they can swoop in and steal the treasure, so he tells Larry to relax. However, listening to Rippen's last line, Larry lays on his side to relax, causing Rippen to fall into the water and, therefore, fall off the waterfall.
Both Penn and Maria combine the map as they read the first riddle, reading: "Carefully choose your path before you stride. Let the first of these words serve as your guide." The gang then go to a giant cavern shaped like a fish's mouth as Penn and Maria find a floor filled with tiles with letters engraved in them. Penn tells Maria to be careful, but she tells him she was never afraid of letters as she steps in, but the tile she steps in breaks, causing her to fall, so Penn saves her before she falls in the pit with large fishes below. Penn tells her they have to step on the letters that spell the first word "carefully", but he falls down when he steps on the next letter, being saved by Maria. Boone suggest them to let him analyze the riddle, so they show him the riddle and starts analyzing, imagining a disco dancing monkey in the process and chuckles. He then figures out the meaning of the riddle, saying they have to step on the first letter of each word. So, Penn goes across the letter tiles, stepping on the correct letters and reaching the other side with the treasure chest at the end. Penn comes closer to the chest and opens it, revealing a seashell inside, so he, annoyed, tries to throw it away, but Maria stops him, saying it can be useful later.
Rippen and Larry emerge from a geyser as Rippen sees, via telescope, the gang have solve the first riddle, so he tells Larry to follow them from a safe distance. They come across a whirlpool, so Rippen tells Larry to go around it, but Larry mishears it as "lay down" and lays on his side, letting Rippen fall into the water again as he tells him he meant going around, which Larry tells him sharks don't have ears, so Rippen asks him how is he hearing him, which he says he doesn't think he is, so Rippen tells him that he responded him after he asked him.
Penn reads the second riddle, reading: "Welcome to clue number two, the puzzles are piling. If you get the picture, treasure mountain you'll be climbing!". Penn and Maria are climbing skull-shaped rock formations, finding a bunch of puzzle pieces at the top. As they put the puzzle together, Penn gets impatient due to the large amount of puzzle pieces and starts a tantrum, but he notices Maria watching him, so he admits he has issues with patience. So, Maria tells Penn she used to be part of a pirate team, getting treasure chests with trading cards inside. However, when it was time to divide up the hall, they ditched her, saying that was the last time she trusted a human pirate, so Penn tells her he won't double-cross. Maria says they will be trapped in the puzzle pieces for the rest of their lives, but, however, Penn sees a high tree branch between the clouds, allowing Penn to figure out that they just have to pile up the puzzle pieces as it says in the riddle. Penn, Sashi and Maria start piling up the puzzle pieces into a tower, allowing them to reach the tree branch, seeing the chest. They open the chest, finding a music stand and a note saying "GET IN", so they get inside the chest. Then, the tree branch breaks, leading to them falling down and sliding down the mountain on their chest, activating a mechanism on their way that opens up a whirlpool. Meanwhile, Boone is talking about monkey business to the boat Maria as Sashi flies in and tells him to catch Penn and the pirate Maria, so Boone jumps to catch Penn and Maria on their chest, but they crash through Boone and end up falling into the whirlpool, getting sucked in. The boat Maria then tells him that's what happens when he talks about monkeys all day.
The whirlpool brings Penn and Maria to a cave with waterfalls in the background. As they float on their treasure chest, Penn sees Maria coming closer, thinking she is going to kiss, so he closes his eyes and puckers his lips, but she tells him he just had a seaweed on his shoulder and asks him why did he closed his eyes, so Penn lies to her that his eyebrows are heavy or weak. Maria reads the last riddle, reading: "Add up all your clues of which there are three. Try to see what's not there or all wet you will be!". The two reach the island on the riddle, which has a red X on it. They go to the X, but, however, end up getting trapped by a giant clam hiding underground. Inside the clam, Penn gets mad and goes into a tantrum, tossing the note and the objects they collected. However, the map falls into the water inside the clam, revealing hidden musical notes. Maria sees the notes and figures out they have to play the seashell like a musical instrument. So, Penn plays the seashell in a tune, leading to the clam, enjoying the tune, to eject them outside and also spitting the treasure chest that was hidden inside.
Penn takes the treasure chest, but, however, Maria pulls out her sword on him. Penn tries to pull his sword, but ends up pulling a scratching hand, which gets slashed into pieces by Maria. Maria tells him she had to double-cross before he double-crossed her, so Penn tells her he would never double-cross, saying he likes her as a teammate. Maria tells him she also likes him as a teammate as she takes the treasure chest for herself, but, however, Rippen emerges from the water and takes the chest. Maria asks him how did he got here, which he tells her Larry has been dumping him down whirlpools all day, but, luckily for him, he went down the same whirlpool the two went to. Penn and Maria point their swords at him, so Rippen uses a geyser to escape from them. Maria apologizes for messing up, so Penn tells her they can fix this if they work together, but Maria goes to a geyser to get out of the cave. Penn, saddened, goes back and quickly trips, revealing a piece of a key that he got tripped by.
After escaping, Rippen gets angry that he can't open the treasure chest. Larry spots a note in a bottle, so Rippen catches it and reads it, saying that the only way to open it is with a key. Then, after the pirate Maria abandoned Penn, the note's writer, he reunited with Sashi and Boone while the boat Maria reunited with the pirate Maria. At the end of the note, Rippen reads that Penn will challenge him in a duel. Boone emerges from the water as Penn appears, ready to challenge Rippen. Penn goes to Larry and lands on a rope, so Rippen goes to the rope to fight. Both start swordfighting with their swords, with Penn falling off the rope. Rippen is about to defeat Penn, but his sword is replaced by an opossum by Maria, who is behind him on top of the sail. Rippen tries to oull another sword, only to take out a cat who starts scratching him. Maria tells him he is lucky she had access to small mammals, with Penn telling her he had a plan as he reveals Sashi hiding in his hat, equipped with swords. Rippen, escaping from the cat, falls into the water and asks Larry for help, but Larry mishears it as "swallow", so he swallows him up.
Penn tells Maria he is glad she is back, with Maria telling him he taught him being part of a pirate team is worth the risk. Maria then hugs him, telling him she likes her, so Penn tells her he likes her too, but he then sees he got tied up by Maria. Maria tells him she meant everything she said, but she is still a pirate as she departs from him on the boat Maria. Penn watches both Marias go away as Sashi unties him before getting zapped out.
At The Odyssey, Penn got distracted by Maria, so Sashi snaps him out, calling him "lover boy". Phyllis then gives him the MUHU, saying the MUHU will grow green when it detects a crystal. After picking the MUHU, however, his pants fall down, annoying Penn. Meanwhile, Maria opens the treasure chest, revealing gold and also a crystal which gets curiously picked up by her, being the second crystal required to triangulate the Most Dangerous World Imaginable, ending the episode.
