- “This is our kingdom and now we're here to take it back.”
- ―Snow White to The Evil Queen
The Queen's Castle (also known as Snow White's Castle) is the primary setting of the 2025 live action adaptation of the 1937 animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Background[]
The castle was once owned by the kind rulers of an unnamed kingdom who welcomed a daughter during an intense snowstorm, whom they named Snow White. Over the years, the Queen grew ill and eventually died while Snow White was growing up in the castle. The King later met another woman, whom he married and ruled alongside him, but he eventually disappeared which meant the new Queen became the sole ruler of the castle.
Role in the film[]
Years after the King's disappearance, the Evil Queen makes her stepdaughter to work as a scullery maid and becomes nasty, not allowing other people to visit the castle, unlike the late King and Queen who were kinder to the less fortunate townspeople. One day, while Snow White is cleaning the halls, she finds a thief named Jonathan stealing food inside the castle, and offers him the food as well as enough for his friends, but warns him he must leave. However, Jonathan soon gets caught and the Queen prepares to have him executed, but Snow White speaks on his behalf. Unfortunately, the Queen insists on punishing him. Snow White walks around the castle, thinking back to the happy days before her stepmother arrived. Seeing Jonathan bound to the castle gate, she frees him and gives him a piece of bread. He asks her to come with him and see the kingdom for herself, but she declines and returns to the castle. The Queen witnesses all this and is furious.
Snow White later finds the Queen in the dining quarters and asks her to help those who have so little and offer them kindness, but the Queen declines, claiming the people do not need help or luxury. Down in her private quarters of the castle, the Queen later asks the Magic Mirror who the "fairest of them all" is, which the mirror answers is Snow White. This angers her to no end. She then tells the Huntsman to take Snow White into the far forest to pick apples and kill her.
When the Huntsman fails to kill Snow white, the Evil Queen decides to take matters into her own hands and creates a potion in her chambers, which will turn her into an old hag, in order to trick the princess into eating a poisoned apple. Now disguised, the Queen manages to trick Snow White into eating the apple, which puts her into a deathly sleep somewhere in the forest, outside of the castle. The Queen returns to the caste, but unbeknownst to her, Snow White is revived by Jonathan with true love's kiss, and the couple convince the guards and townspeople to put an end to the Queen's evil doings by storming the castle.
Later when the Queen is in her castle, Snow White confronts her stepmother over her tyranny. The Queen tries to harm the princess again but fails, which leads to the Magic Mirror being smashed and the Queen to meet her demise with the shards of glass after the Mirror reveals that Snow White will always be fairer than the Queen due to her kindness and fairness. With the Evil Queen's reign over, Snow White marries Jonathan and they become the new Queen and King of the kingdom, as well as becoming the new owners of the castle.
Trivia[]
- The exterior of the castle is a lot lighter compared to the castle from the original film.
- Unlike their animated counterparts, instead of going to The Prince's Castle, Snow White and Jonathan return to this castle at the end of the film and reside here, where they become the new rulers, following the Evil Queen's death.
