"The Series Finale" is the ninth and final episode of the Disney+ streaming television miniseries WandaVision and was released on March 5, 2021. It was written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman.
Synopsis[]
The events of WandaVision come to a head, and the destinies of all who took part are determined.
Plot[]
Immediately following the previous episode, Wanda proceeds to attack Agatha with her magic. However, she quickly learns that she absorbs her powers easily, weakening her. After tossing a car into her, Wanda is confronted by the White Vision who tries to kill her before her Vision returns to fight him. As both Visions and witches head out of the neighborhood, Monica is revealed to be trapped in Agatha's house with Pietro who it turns out is actually Ralph Bohner, an actor who is the actual owner of the house Agnes was living in during the sitcom. She discovers that Agatha is controlling him with an enchanted necklace and removes it from him before escaping the house.
Outside the Hex, Woo is captured by Hayward who reveals that there is a lack of footage of the current events and will try to make Wanda look like a villain while he retrieves the White Vision and make him look like a hero. Woo manages to steal his cell phone and calls for FBI backup. In the town square, Agatha taunts Wanda by awakening all of the residents who beg Wanda to let them go. She further unveils the Darkhold, a powerful spell book that prophesizes the coming of the Scarlet Witch, the master of chaos magic.
Overcome with sadness, Wanda removes the Hex to allow all the residents to leave, but causes Vision, Billy and Tommy to deteriorate. Hayward and his S.W.O.R.D. agents enter the Hex just as Wanda rebuilds it to save her family. Together, they take on their enemies. Wanda continues to battle Agatha, Vision battles White Vision and Billy and Tommy take out the S.W.O.R.D. agents. When Hayward attempts to shoot them, Monica uses her newfound abilities to stop the bullets. Hayward attempts to flee, but Darcy arrives in her truck and pins him in his vehicle.
Vision asks for White Vision's prime directive which is to kill the Vision, but he points out that this does not compute because he is a conditional Vision. Using the Ship of Theseus comparison, Vision points out to White Vision that both of them are the real Vision but, at the same time, neither of them are: while White Vision has the original body without the Mind Stone, the other Vision is a reconstruct made from Wanda's memories that has none of the original material or memories. White Vision still retains his "rot" which are his own memories locked away by Hayward. Using his powers, Vision helps White Vision to reawake the memories of his former life before flying away and leaving the Hex, presumably to find himself.
Wanda enters Agatha's memories of her failed execution, but the witches of the past identify Wanda as the Scarlet Witch and attack her. Listening to Agatha's words, Wanda and Agatha fly high above Westview and fight with Wanda willingly giving her powers to Agatha while also attacking the barrier. It turns out that Wanda was designing runes, which makes Agatha unable to use magic against her. Wanda then fully embraces her Scarlet Witch powers and gets a new costume, her Scarlet Witch moniker, depowering Agatha in the process. Wanda punishes Agatha by turning her into Agnes and promising to reawaken her if she needs her help.
Wanda, Vision, Billy, and Tommy head home as the Hex begins to shrink back down. They say goodnight to Tommy and Billy before Wanda has one final moment with Vision. Wanda tells him that he was created from a piece of the Mind Stone that lives inside her and that he is her true love. Vision tells Wanda that he will meet her again, before the Hex completely vanishes as her family and house disappear. Now alone, Wanda walks by her former neighbors before chatting with Monica who sympathizes with Wanda while admitting that had she had the same power, she would bring her mother back. Wanda says goodbye and flies away after having one last look at Westview.
In a mid-credits scene, Jimmy and Monica speak with one another before an agent comes asking the latter to speak with her in the theater. The agent is revealed to be a Skrull who tells Monica that "he" has been asking for her to join them. She directs upward, implying that Monica is headed to space. In a post-credits scene, Wanda is now situated in an isolated cabin in the wilderness. However, this is actually an illusion as within the cabin, Wanda in her Scarlet Witch attire is reading the Darkhold while searching for Billy and Tommy whose voices are calling for help.

Trivia[]
- The title indicates that this is indeed the finale to the WandaVision series, as well as the end of Wanda's television fantasy life. It has been confirmed by the director of the series that there is no second season planned.[1]
- The revelation that "Pietro" is actually an actor named Ralph Bohner has a double meaning. Upon Monica learning his name, Ralph chuckles at his surname which sounds like "Boner", which typically refers to someone who has an erection. However, the word also means a goof up or a punchline. This could be a reference to the fact that his character, should one be watching the series for the first time, misleads the audience into thinking that he is Quicksilver of the X-Men films, only to be fooled that he is simply an actor who exists within the MCU.
- A visual reference to the X-Men films is made when Tommy takes out the S.W.O.R.D. agents and acquires a pair of shades and a hat from them. He performs a similar stunt to Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past during the "Time in a Bottle" scene.
- The cinema marquee at the very end displays titles for two fictional movies called Tannhauser Gate and Put the Fun in Disfunction. The first title is a reference to the movie Blade Runner where the villain Roy Batty tells Decker “I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.” This is most likely a nod to Wanda's Vision and his artificial behavior. The second title most likely references the themes of the series.
- When Wanda throws a car at Agatha, only her feet are seen underneath. This is a visual reference to the Wicked Witch of the East from The Wizard of Oz.
- A slowed down and more "sinister" version of the Doctor Strange theme is heard during the post-credits scene.
- The creator of the series, Jac Schaeffer, stated in an interview that White Vision's whereabouts after flying away were not shown because they wanted to focus in the titular Vision, and that despite "White Vision" having Vision's original body and data, he is a different character, not being the one who Wanda has been in the sitcom with or the one she said goodbye in Wakanda.[2][3][4]
