"The Soul Vibrations" is the fourteenth episode of the Disney+ animated series, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder. It premiered on February 1, 2023 on Disney+ and aired on March 25, 2023 on Disney Channel, and is the seventh episode in the second season.

Synopsis[]

Penny and crew discover that Oscar and Uncle Bobby were once part of a famous R&B group.

Plot[]

Penny and her friends plan to camp out to get tickets to Young Toddler who will have singer Giselle of the Soul Vibrations. Oscar and Suga Mama are oddly negative about her and Bobby reveals that he, Oscar, Cousin Ray Ray, and Giselle used to be together as the Soul Vibrations with Suga Mama as their manager. Bobby and Oscar both give slightly conflicting stories about how "they" were the talented ones before getting invited to Merlin Kelly's party to perform. Giselle stole the spotlight from them, signed with Merlin behind their backs, and left. Ray Ray arrives and reveals that he got backstage tickets for them to see Giselle who gives her own side of the story. She was always the talented one and she quit because Suga Mama did not see her as family. Suga Mama arrives and reveals that Merlin betrayed them all and she and Giselle make up. Suga Mama finally admits that Bobby has no talent and Giselle admits that she was sweet with Ray Ray. She invites her former bandmates up on stage to perform with her again.

Cast[]

Songs[]

  • "Muskrat Love" by the Soul Vibrations
  • "You're Lucky I Let You Love Me" by Normani

Trivia[]

  • This episode marks the return of Ray Ray Proud, Sr.
  • The concept of the episode is borrowed from the Japanese film Roshomon, in which one story is retold from several different points of view, with each character (except Ray Ray) telling it a different way.
  • Throughout all the stories, only Giselle's song remains constant, while "Muskrat Love" goes through several iterations: funk in Bobby's version, slow ballad in Oscar's version, and barbershop quartet in Giselle's version. Oscar's version is heard on the soundtrack album.
  • Suga Mama finally admits that Bobby is not as talented as he thinks he is. Throughout the original series, she would constantly praise his singing talents. It's possible that making up with Giselle has convinced her to accept Bobby's talents as being less than.
  • The Disney+ captions say "Old-Ass Suga Mama" when Oscar jokingly tells her what the "OAS" (Oats Are Supreme) on his box means. The show's crew members confirmed that it is an error and he actually says "Old As Suga Mama".
