The Southern Isles is an unseen kingdom in Disney's 2013 animated feature film Frozen. It is home to Prince Hans and his family, whom rule over the land.
Background[]
The Southern Isles are presumably located somewhere near or within the region of Denmark. This is suggested in Frozen Fever, where, after Elsa accidentally sneezes into the horn and causes a huge snowball to be launched, it travels all the way to the Southern Isles, which is shown to be roughly where Denmark is located. It is an extremely unhappy place as the King, Hans' father, taxes the people harshly and brutally puts down any defiance. Twelve of his sons are similarly awful people.

While The Southern Isles aren't seen in the film, Hans does mention it since he was born there along with his 12 older brothers, all of whom do not treat Hans with any sort of respect or love. As he says, two of them pretended that he didn't exist for a few years. This mistreatment has made Hans decide to visit Arendelle to marry into royalty because he is the 13th heir in line for the throne of his own kingdom, which he states has rendered him unable to inherit said throne, so he prompts to marry into royalty. He planned of courting Elsa, but since she was revealed to be too socially withdrawn, he decided to settle for her sister Anna and also decide to kill Elsa in order to inherit the throne.
After Hans' attempt to murder Elsa ends up backfiring, he is then promptly arrested by a french dignitary who also deports him back to the Southern Isles to face judgement from his 12 older brothers.
Frozen Fever[]
The Southern Isles are briefly seen when Elsa accidentally sneezes into a large horn and sends a giant snowball all the way from Arendelle to the Isles. Hans is seen cleaning up manure in the horse stables, which is part of his punishment for his actions against Arendelle. Just as he scoops up another pile he suddenly sees the giant snowball, but he fails to get out of the way in time and is instantly hit by it and falls into the manure that he has placed in a wheel barrow. The horses promptly laugh at Hans' misfortune.

- In the Broadway musical, Hans describes the Southern Isles as "a very small kingdom on a very small island."
- The Frozen comic "Reunion Road" states there are four main islands.
- In Conceal, Don't Feel, it is mentioned that Hans' family is relatively new to running the kingdom.
- In "The Next Right Things" in "All is Found: A Frozen Anthology", it is revealed that the king of the Southern Isles gave queen Idunna a set of earrings after she became queen. It is unknown if this was Hans father, grandfather or a previous family. Anna also mentions that the bond between the Southern Isles and Arendelle has always been strong. In "Anna and the King", Anna solidifies a free trade agreement with the Southern Isles by working with the eldest prince, Something her father long sought to accomplish. Even though the agreement is with the oldest prince, it is Prince Lars, and his wife, Princess Helga, who come to sign the agreement.
- The isles on the top of the archipelago bear a striking resemblance to the Philippines. It is unknown whether this was intentional or not.
