"The Sun Riders Return" is the twentieth episode of Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!
Synopsis[]
Chasing the latest Skeleton King monster into space, the Monkey Team encounters not only the villain's latest diabolical scheme, but an apparently reformed team of Sun Riders. But the questions remains... can these villains truly be trusted?
Plot[]
The Hyper Force find themselves fighting a giant space squid before discovering their fight with it has drained the Super Robot's energy reserves and they need to find more fuel.
Arriving at a mining colony on the nearby volcanic planet, they soon find that the colonists are protected by, of all people, Super Quasar, Aurora Six, and Johnny Sunspot, the Sun Riders. However, remembering the Sun Riders having been allied with the Skeleton King previously, the Hyper Force still bear some resentment and hostility to them, especially between Chiro and Johnny, but when they and the colonists fight off several of some more powerful Formless infantry with the Hyper Force, the Hyper Force begin to believe that the Sun Riders truly have seen the error of their ways and want to make amends.
To further show they are good, the Sun Riders show off their new vehicle, the Nebutron 8, and offer Chiro a chance to come with them to find the source of the Formless and their new appearances. Even though Chiro and Johnny still trade wisecracks and insults with each other, they soon enter the main magma chamber of the nearby volcano, and find that the Formless appear to be nursing dozens of eggs that, upon hatching, are revealed to be baby versions of the space squid the Super Robot fought earlier, which has engaged the Hyper Force again, leaving Chiro without them for support. Worse, when Chiro notices the Sun Riders suddenly age and become elderly, it was an early warning that Skeleton King himself was near, as he soon arrives personally on his pterodactyl to oversee the Formless as they dump dozens of crystals similar to what the mining colony was harvesting into the magma, where when the baby squids eat enough of them, they rapidly age into adolescents. As Skeleton King takes his leave afterwards, he spots Chiro and the Sun Riders, and exposes them to his forces before leaving with a vicious evil cackle. With him gone, the Sun Riders return to their younger appearances again, but they and Chiro soon come under attack from the adolescent space squids and Formless. At one point, after fighting off some of them, Chiro is ready to throw down, only to find the Sun Riders apparently abandon him and run for their own lives, after he thought they truly had wanted to be good guys now. Thankfully, it turns out, they had simply retreated to bring the Nebutron back to battle the enemies, and protect Chiro as they use their combination attack to allow them a chance to escape the volcano.
Meanwhile, the Super Robot is running low on energy as the giant space squid has the Hyper Force at its mercy. Luckily, the Nebutron arrives and wedges itself in the squid's mouth, while the Sun Riders and Chiro eject and burst out the back of the squid's head before parachuting to safety. Chiro then has the Hyper Force, under Johnny's idea, grab the squid and fling it into the volcano where the younger ones are, which uses up the last of the Super Robot's power. As everyone watches, as the squid and its young begin to emerge from the volcano's mouth, Johnny activates the Nebutron's self-destruct, causing it to explode and thus cause the volcano to erupt, wiping out the giant space squid and all its young in one fall swoop, to the Hyper Force's shock and amazement. Afterwards, Chiro joins the Sun Riders in reciting their motto, as the colonists cheer in victory.
Later on, the lead colonist rewards the Hyper Force with a large crystal that would provide plenty of fuel for the Super Robot, but due to how only Chiro could understand the Hyper Force, Gibson's thanks is heard as monkey chatter to the colonists. Afterwards, the Sun Riders allow Chiro to keep the pendant they gave him to prove they are now friends and allies, and if the Hyper Force ever needs their help in the future, the Sun Riders will be there, as they are now real life heroes, just like the Hyper Force.
