"The Taking of the Solar Express" is the second segment of the twenty-fifth episode of Miles from Tomorrowland. It premiered on October 24, 2015 alongside "The Pluto Rescue".
Plot[]
Outside the Stellosphere, Miles tests M.E.R.C.'s new function, and it works, causing him to stick to the ship. M.E.R.C. now has grav-feet, like Miles' grav-boots. Leo invented them to generate gravity and keep them from floating away. Miles turns them off, and he floats away, but M.E.R.C. brings him back. Miles sees the Tethoscape, where the Callistos will meet Haruna, who is excited to show them something.
Once there, the Callistos meet the Kitumba family, and are delighted to see them. Kofi states that he and Maya have been hard at work on an experimental new vehicle. He then presents the Solar Express. Maya and Kofi invented the space train because the Tomorrowland Transit Authority asked them to develop a new, efficient way to travel between the planets in the solar system. The Callistos are impressed by it, and decide to join the Kitumbas on the ride. Before doing so, the tech-bots are loading the cargo. Unbeknownst to everyone, Gadfly disguises as one, and is so impressed by the Solar Express that he plans to steal it. He then carries another piece of cargo to the train, and is excited to be inside. The Callistos and the Kitumbas head inside the train, where they first see the control center, where all piloting and navigation takes place. The middle cars can hold up to twenty passengers each. Maya then tells Hank, one of the tech-bots in the control room, to take them to Jupiter. Miles and Haruna could not be more excited that they are riding a space train, and Leo feels the same way.
The train then leaves the Tethoscape, and deploys its solar sails, which are like sails on a boat, but the sails are being pushed by light from the sun. Miles and Haruna decide to go the observatory to enjoy the view.
Meanwhile, Gadfly takes off his robot disguise, and orders his goons to capture the other robots. Despite one robot warning Gadfly that the Solar Express is difficult to pilot, Gadfly de-charges all of them. One goon pilots the ship, and Maya realizes that the train has swerved when it was not supposed to. Phoebe thinks that it must be a glitch when Gadfly speaks through the loudspeakers. Gadfly and his goons arrive, and the goons take everyone to the other car, where Gadfly traps them. Gadfly plans to drop them on the nearest planet before taking the train back home. Loretta and Phoebe agree that Miles and Haruna are their best hope of escaping.
As Miles and Haruna continue to enjoy the view, M.E.R.C. sees Gadfly and his goons, and informs them of such. Haruna realizes that the only way to stop the train is from the control panel in the front car. Gadfly tells the goons to take the train to Mars, where they will leave the Callistos and the Kitumbas. However, the screen says that the train is heading towards Earth, and Gadfly reluctantly agrees to pilot the train himself.
Once Miles and Haruna do not see Gadfly, Haruna tries to open the doors, but Gadfly locked them. Blastboarding to the front car will not work, as well, since the solar sails are making the train go faster, and if anyone lets go of the train, they will be left in the space dust. Miles and Haruna then decide to walk their way to the front car by using their grav-boots and M.E.R.C.'s grav-feet.
While walking, Haruna states that one foot always has to be on the train, and Miles loses his Questcom when he tries to transfer between cars. The Callistos and the Kitumbas hear the clanging, thinking that Miles and Haruna are trying to save the day. Gadfly hears them, as well, and sends his goons to find out what is going on. Miles, Haruna, and M.E.R.C. see them trying to knock them off. Miles uses his Lazerang and M.E.R.C. uses his long neck to deactivate two goons while Haruna deactivates the other.
As Gadfly is enjoying himself, he sees M.E.R.C. sticking out the top. Miles and Haruna appear, and wrap the Blastbuckle tether around Gadfly, who accidentally smashes into the controls, causing the train to speed up and head for Mars. Haruna unlocks all of the doors, and Gadfly reluctantly releases Haruna and Miles' families. Everyone congratulates Miles, especially Gadfly, who wonders if the train could be stopped. Maya and Kofi can not stop it because the controls are broken. With less than a minute remaining until the train crashes into Mars, Miles and Haruna decide that, since the solar sails are made of flexible materials, they can be used as parachutes. That will slow the train down once it enters Mars's atmosphere. After the train enters the planet's atmosphere, it will slow down enough for Miles and Haruna to use their Blastboards.
With the train having entered the atmosphere, Miles and Haruna place two ends of the solar sails together while Haruna welds them together with his heat ray. M.E.R.C. pushes the solar sails to the back of the train, and it works. Maya activates its bumper shields, and everyone, including Gadfly, celebrates once the train lands on the surface. Miles thinks that that was the best ride ever. The Callistos and the Kitumbas can go again, but first, the train needs a security upgrade so that it does not have any more unexpected intruders. Maya says that the one thing the Kitumbas want to take on a journey like this is the Callisto family.
