The Tale of Moana is an upcoming stage show set to board on the Disney Treasure and set to perform at the Walt Disney Theatre, themed around the 2016 Disney animated feature film Moana. The show will debut on December 21, 2024, the same day the Disney Treasure begins its voyage.
History[]
On January 12, 2024, it was announced that a Moana-themed show would be debuting at the Disney Treasure on December 2024 performing exclusively at the Walt Disney Theatre. Themed after the Pacific Islands, it was also announced that the show would immerse audiences on a transformational across land and sea as what was inspired by the film itself.
The show was also announced to include puppetry that would be featured throughout the show, such as a life-sized Te Kā, making it the largest puppet built for a Disney Cruise Line show compared to most Disney Cruise Line shows that showcased puppets which the company never produced before. It was also announced that the show would include a deleted song "Warrior Face", a song that was cut from the original film where Maui taught Moana to face her fears before entering Lalotai to face against Tamatoa. In addition to this, it was also confirmed that songs from the original film, such as "You're Welcome", "We Know the Way", and "How Far I'll Go" would be included in the show.[1]
Show summary[]
"The Tale of Moana" will be set in the island of Motunui featuring narration from the spirit of Gramma Tala who will introduce her granddaughter Moana while retelling the story of Moana and her journey from Motunui to the open ocean and how she saved the day. The show will also include additional native languages from the Pacific Islands - mostly through dances and songs in a mix of languages such as Tuvaluan, Tokelauan, and Samoan.
The show will also include the iconic scene where Moana sails on her boat to seek Maui as she sails across the ocean while a Gramma Tala (who swims in her manta ray form) helps Moana on the journey to save the island of Motunui, where the Motunui scene will transform into the ocean throughout Moana's adventures during a great voyage.
