"The Twelve Days of Christmas" is an English Christmas carol that enumerates a series of increasingly grand gifts given on each of the twelve days of Christmas.
One version is sung by Larry Groce and the cast of Mickey Mouse and Friends in numerous Christmas albums and Disney's Sing-Along Songs: The Twelve Days of Christmas, and another by the cast of Phineas and Ferb in the album Phineas and Ferb Holiday Favorites.
Lyrics[]
On the first day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
A partridge in a pear tree
On the second day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree
On the third day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
Three French hens
Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree
On the fourth day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
Four calling birds
Three French hens
Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree
On the fifth day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
Five golden rings
Four calling birds
Three French hens
Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree
On the sixth day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
Six geese a-laying
Five golden rings
Four calling birds
Three French hens
Two turtle doves
And a partridge in a pear tree
On the seventh day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
Seven swans a-swimming

Trivia[]
- In the Phineas and Ferb series, it is the third longest song that was written for the show, placed behind "Kick It Up a Notch" but longer than "Summer Belongs to You". "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)" is the longest overall, however, but was not written for the series.
- When the song was aired on television in 2010, Doofenshmirtz interrupts to say to skip to the twelfth day, which had been done so that it was not too long.
- In the Mickey Mouse and Friends version, the characters sing "gave" in the lyric "My true love gave to me" for the first five days, but from the sixth day onward, they sing "sent".
- On the tenth day, Goofy is interrupted by Donald singing the fifth day rather than the fourth day, which makes Goofy take Donald's line as well.
- On the eleventh day, Goofy jokingly sings "five onion rings" instead of "five golden rings" (which is a variation of the original lyric "five golden rings"). On the twelfth day, he sings his line later and quicker than usual.
- On the twelfth day, Mickey jokingly sings "two turtle ducks" instead of "two turtle doves".
- The high-pitched voice at the end saying "Merry Crimble!" is producer Jymn Magon with his voice sped-up, using The Beatles's slang term for "Christmas". (Magon is a big Beatles fan.)
- On the album version, on the last verse, Goofy asks, "What is a 'callin' bird'?", but in the Sing-Along Songs version, he sings his line as normal ("Four callin' birds").
Continuity[]
- Dr. Doofenshmirtz mentions his love of almond brittle again.
- Candace appears to grow more frustrated as she sings her line from the second day, two busted brothers, towards the end, most likely because she feels she may never get her wish.
- Baljeet and Jeremy's wishes are the same as what they were in "Phineas and Ferb Christmas Vacation!".
- Vanessa mentions that she wants a car for the third time, by singing "My own set of wheels" for the eleventh day. The first time was "Vanessassary Roughness", and the second was "Finding Mary McGuffin".
- Ferb uses his natural voice to sing his wish, one line of dialogue, and for the second time overall. The first time was in The Ballad of Badbeard.
- In the video, the part where he sings his line was taken from the part where he talks to Aunt Tiana in "Candace's Big Day", only this time, there is snow on the ground.
- The episodes that the clips used in this song were taken from are shown here in no particular order; "Phineas and Ferb Christmas Vacation!", "Phineas and Ferb Get Busted!", "Isabella and the Temple of Sap", "Flop Starz", "Candace's Big Day", "Finding Mary McGuffin", TBA, "Raging Bully", Rollercoaster".
- On the Disney website, there is a significantly shorter version in which Dr. Doofenshmirtz convinces them to skip to the twelfth day already after reaching the third.
- In the said video, Stacy is wearing her winter outfit from "S'Winter", except she does not have her snow cap on.
- In the shorter version of the song, the Fireside Girls are wearing the same winter attire like Gretchen and Adyson Sweetwater wore in "S'Winter".
- Dr. Doofenshmirtz sings part of the song closer to its original version in "Phineas and Ferb Christmas Vacation!". The way he sang it as follows is, "And a Partridge on a Perry... the platypus!", which was very similar to the original, which goes, "And a Partridge on a Pear Tree". When he reaches the ninth day in the song, he sings the fifth day exactly how it traditionally is, saying that he had to do it at least once because he is "traditional".
Other versions[]
- In the Philippines, the sketch comedy Goin' Bulilit has versions of the 12 Days of Christmas every year in the "last year's days."
- A different version is also featured in the Disney Princess Christmas Album.
- Mickey and his friends cast sing the song at Disneyland on the Disney's Sing-Along Songs: The Twelve Days of Christmas video, with the final four gifts switched to say "Twelve ladies dancing, eleven lords a-leaping, ten drummers drumming, nine pipers piping". It's originally 12 drummers drumming, 11 pipers piping, 10 lords a-leaping, 9 ladies dancing.
- The album A Pooh Christmas's version of the song rewrites it, such as "a nice home in an old tree."
- In the Dinosaurs universe they celebrate a Christmas like-holiday called Refrigerator day, as seen in the episode Refrigerator Day. Refrigerator Day has carols, one carol is "The Twelve Days of Fridge Day" a parody of The Twelve Days of Christmas.
