"The Voice" is the first segment of the twelfth episode of Recess.
When Principal Prickly discovers that Mikey sings like Robert Goulet (who portrays Mikey's singing voice), he appoints a beautiful, young music teacher named Miss Salamone (voiced by Glenne Headly), to help him prepare for the PTA Spring Fling. But while working with her, Mikey starts to fall in love with Miss Salamone but the gang tells him that their relationship wouldn't work because he's only 9 years old and she's a teacher. Determined to prove them wrong, Mikey runs inside to find Miss Salamone to tell her that he's in love with her. But when he finds her, Miss Salamone's boyfriend Antonio proposes to her. Miss Salamone introduces Mikey to Antonio, but he leaves the music room crying. On the day of the PTA Spring Fling, Mikey is nowhere to be found until Miss Salamone enters the boys' bathroom and she finds him. Mikey doesn't want to sing because of what happened between her and Antonio. Realizing that Mikey had a crush on her, Miss Salamone tells Mikey that he's sweet, but he's 9 years old and that he’ll meet someone his own age and she'll be the luckiest girl in the world. After talking to Ms. Salamone, Mikey decides to sing but decided not to sing "The National Anthem" but a song called "Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen". After his song everybody cheers and gives Mikey a standing ovation and Ms. Salamone leaves the auditorium. Mikey says goodbye to her and will never forget her. Ms. Salamone says goodbye to him back and says that she'll see him in middle school. As Ms. Salamone leaves the auditorium, the cheering continues and Mikey bows, ending the episode.
