Thelma is a character from the 2020 Disney+ original film The One and Only Ivan.
Background[]
Thelma is a loquacious albeit repetitive blue and yellow macaw who used to be one of the animals at the Big Top Mall. She would occasionally be seen outside the entrance of the circus standing in her perch, often collecting tickets from visitors who purchased tickets for the circus. Additionally, she would occasionally repeat others' words she hears like any typical parrot (example, Mack's line "Our show will commence in five minutes!" which Thelma repeats "Five!").
Role in the film[]
Thelma is first seen outside the circus tent at the Big Top Mall where Mack tells the audience that their show will commence in five minutes, which Thelma repeats, "Five!". The next day, Thelma flies to the perch where she usually stands at the entrance where Mack tells her to remember what the words "Bird for sale" mean to her. Later that night when Mack tells Castello to keep everything under control, Thelma repeats Mack's words while Castello plans to get Bob out of Ivan's enclosure.
The next day, Thelma becomes aware of Ruby's arrival at the Big Top Mall where Ruby becomes a new addition to the show where she arrived at Frankie's enclosure where Frankie tells her that she is the cutest elephant. The following day where Ruby gains popularity, Thelma is seen collecting tickets from Mack collecting tickets from visitors who purchased them for the circus. Later when Julie shows Mack the drawings that Ivan did, Mack tells Thelma about Ivan's drawing skills which Thelma reacts to Mack giving out the info.
Furthermore, Thelma follows Ivan and the other animals as part of Ivan's plan to escape into the wild only to find out that the doors at the entrance to the Big Top Mall are locked, unable to escape, but to Ivan's strength, he breaks through the doors seeing trees from a distance, causing the other animals to escape. Thelma follows alongside the other animals into the "forest", followed by Ivan getting Murphy out of the road to safety just as the other animals temporarily enjoy their freedom in the woods only to find out that this "forest" is an intersection. Mack brings all the escaped animals back into their enclosures.
The following day after the audience became impressed of Ivan's masterpiece, protesters arrive at the Big Top Mall, demanding all the animals to be free; Thelma, Henrietta, Murphy, and Frankie are taken away from the circus to be sent to a better home, followed by Ivan and Ruby being relocated at Zoo Atlanta.
