Theodore "Ted" Pauley is a character in the 2001 Disney/Pixar animated film, Monsters, Inc.. He is a large hulking monster who works for Monsters, Incorporated.
Background[]
Pauley is a gargantuan monster who works for Monsters, Incorporated. He has pale purple skin all around his body, two large fists, several spikes on his body as well. He also has sixteen eyeballs which he places on his torso. Whenever he works at the Scare Floor, he uses his eyeballs to scare children to generate enough scream energy. He is often seen in the background in several instances throughout the franchise. Ever since Waternoose's arrest, Pauley still retains his job albeit working as a jokester within the facility to produce laughs instead of screams.
Appearances[]
Monsters, Inc.[]
Pauley is seen amongst the various monsters walking on the Scare Floor on their duty as Scarers where they are seen planning to scare children to provide energy in the company. During the event, his assistant Kevin gets his eyeballs ready for Pauley to scare and provide screams for the company. On the leaderboard, Pauley is placed into eleventh place having a total of 41,918 screams on the leaderboard only outranking Claws Ward and Harley Gerson. Later, Pauley appears in various scenes as an incidental monster often seen in Harryhausen's or in certain scenes where he appears in the facility. It is unknown of what happened to Pauley afterwards, even after Waternoose's arrest and after scares are replaced with laughs in the company.
Monsters at Work[]
Pauley appears as a background character in numerous episodes - often seen in crowds as well as monsters walking in the background, just like in the original Monsters, Inc. film. In spite of this, he does have a speaking role in "Welcome to Monsters, Incorporated", where Ms. Flint instructs Pauley to proceed with his humorous dissertation for the child which Tylor enters. Pauley attempts to make the child laugh with several attempts only to break the robotic child while Tylor introduces herself to Ms. Flint.
Pauley next appears in "Opening Doors" where he tells Val Little to tell Tylor Tuskmon hurry things along in the bathroom, ignorant that Tylor was Fear Co. trying to decline a job offer by its CEO, Johnny Worthington III. WHen tylor returns, Pauley disgustedly tells Tylor to stop bringing up his supposed bathroom issues.

Monster Laughs[]
In the book inspired by the Monsters franchise, it is said that Pauley is a member of the Laugh Floor where he attempts to produce any laughs from children, but no results occur. Mike then teaches Pauley how to provide laughs by helping him joke with effective puns, but his results were a failure. Pauley then learns to be comical after he pops his eyes out of their sockets.
