Very Good news people. This article says Brave has a strong chance at a sequel.
Again, she doesn't want to get married ever. That is what she is against. But it wouldn't hurt if she just had a boy to date but NOT being the big deal of it. It won't be the main plot of the movie, I assure you that. It doesn't even have to be a serious relationship. It could be romantic but non-serious. She would just date the boy for the fun of it, that's all.
But still Merida is suppose to be an icon tha doesn't need a man. She is only interested in archery and being free, that was literally what her character was described as!

Not that I advocate for or against her marrying, but to be fair, the official novelization for Brave DID have a brief mention in the ending that she did in fact eventually marry someone, so having the sequel have her get married won't exactly be against her characterization since the novelization for the original film indicated she did ultimately get married.
Besides, Belle also had a huge distaste for marriage in Beauty and the Beast, and no one thought she didn't marry Adam (well, okay, I might have some doubts about that due to not directly showing a wedding or even implying in any way such was the case, but still...).
But we still don't want any marriage involved. I'm all right, that she doesn't need a man to be happy. But it wouldn't hurt if a boy comes up to her and be, like her friend. And like all Pixar movies, she needs a best friend or two. Something like a Pixar Pal, you know like, Woody and Buzz, Joy and Sadness, Marlin and Dory, Arlo and Spot etc. you get it?

Problem is, the novelization for Brave already made it very clear Merida already will get married in the future, so it's pretty much out of our hands especially if they decide to have her actually marry. You have a problem with it, take it to the guy who wrote the novelization.
Well she has Angus (And Queen Elinor, her mother, if you count her).
I agree and disagree. Because they show thought on what the main character is thinking and since Brave is part of the Pixar world it is obvious that it is canon but it isn't exactly created by Pixar so... It might or might not be canon who knows
Despite Angus is Merida's pet horse and her only "friend" he doesn't qualify. Queen Elinor doesn't qualify either cause she is her mother. It's gotta be someone she meets in her next adventure, someone that Merida and that person hate each other and got off to a bad start at first but eventually, they warm up to each other as the movie progresses and someone who can can show Merida his/her world and Merida showing that person her world. I would like that to happen between Merida and her possible love interest. I also believe that they could be the first Disney Princess couple who at first hate each other but later on, they become friends
