Thunderbolts* is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name and a sequel to Ant-Man and the Wasp, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Black Widow, and Captain America: Brave New World. It is scheduled to be released on May 2, 2025, and will be the thirty-sixth film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the final film of Phase Five. It was directed by Jake Schreier and Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo wrote the screenplay. It was produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Marvel Studios (and a crew of independent veterans who definitely sold out) present Thunderbolts*, an irreverent team-up featuring depressed assassin Yelena Belova alongside the MCU's least anticipated band of misfits.[1]

Production[]
On June 9, 2022, Deadline reported that a Thunderbolts film was in development at Marvel Studios with Jake Schreier attached to direct and Eric Pearson writing the screenplay. The film is scheduled to film in Summer 2023 with Marvel keeping in touch with some MCU actors to ensure their availability.[9]
On July 23, 2022, during San Diego Comic Con, a logo was unveiled for the film, and the official released date was revealed to be July 26, 2024.[10]
On September 2, 2022, in an interview with The Town, Deadline's Justin Kroll revealed that Yelena Belova will be the leader of the team, along with U.S. Agent and Baron Zemo.[2]
On October 13, 2022, it was reported that Harrison Ford was cast as Thaddeus Ross in the film, replacing William Hurt.[5]
On December 20, 2022, it was reported that the working title of the film was "Oops All Berries".[11]
On January 26, 2023, Deadline reported that Ayo Edebiri joined the cast in a yet-to-be-disclosed role.[12]
On January 27, 2023, Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development Andy Park revealed that the film serves as a sequel to Black Widow.[13]
On February 23, 2023, Deadline reported that Steven Yeun joined the cast in a yet-to-be-disclosed key role.[14]
On March 1, 2023, it was reported that Steven Yeun would portray Sentry in the film.[15]
On March 15, 2023, it was reported that the film would start production on June 12.[16]
On May 25, 2023, Deadline reported that the production of the film would be shut down due to the 2023 WGA strike and that the film would resume production after the strike was resolved.[17]
On June 8, 2023, it was reported that the film was scheduled to begin production in the summer in Utah, despite a previous report that film would not resume production until after the writers strike was resolved.[18]
On June 13, 2023, Disney announced they had pushed back the films release date to December 20, 2024.[19] This comes in line of the ongoing writers strike in America.
On November 10, 2023, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the films release date had pushed back from December 20, 2024 to July 25, 2025.[20]
On January 2, 2024, The Hollywood Reporter reported Steven Yeun exited the film due to scheduling conflicts.[21]
On January 22, 2024, in an interview with Varierty, Sebastian Stan revealed filming would start in February.[22]
On January 25, 2024, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Lewis Pullman was Marvel Studios' top choice to replace Steven Yeun as Sentry.[23]
On January 26, 2024, it was reported that Laurence Fishburne and Rachel Weisz would reprise their roles as Bill Foster and Melina Vostokoff.[6]
On January 29, 2024, Deadline reported that Pullman was confirmed to join the film as Sentry, as well as Geraldine Viswanathan replacing Ayo Edebiri due to scheduling conflicts.[4]
On February 14, 2024, it was reported that the film swapped release dates with The Fantastic Four, now being released on May 2, 2025.[24]
On February 21, 2024, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Joanna Calo would rewrite the script, and that filming is scheduled to begin in March in Atlanta.[25]

On April 11, 2024, during CinemaCon Kevin Feige confirmed that the film had been officially re-titled to Thunderbolts*.[27]
