Trivia[]
This show was originally set to be released in 2023.
This was going to be the fifth television series to be based on a movie featuring a Disney Princess, and the first to be produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios itself. The others were The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Sing Me a Story with Belle, and Tangled.
With this series, Tiana would've been the first Princess to both have a film and TV series produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Stella Meghie became the series' showrunner and director after unsuccessfully trying to pitch an idea for a live-action adaptation of The Princess and the Frog. Jennifer Lee was impressed with her determination that she was offered work on the show instead.[4]
Tiana would have been the first Walt Disney Animation Studios production to be helmed by an African-American director.
The series would also have been the first WDAS long-form production to be helmed by a woman of color.
Additionally, the series would've marked the first long-form WDAS production to be directed solely by a woman.
This is the second TV spin-off series to be cancelled in 2025, following the Okoye series, made by Marvel.
