Toby Tortoise is one of the titular characters of the Silly Symphony, The Tortoise and the Hare and Toby Tortoise Returns. He is the primary rival of speedy Max Hare, but he finds a way to beat him by taking his time. He also makes a cameo appearance in the 1988 Touchstone Pictures/Amblin entertainment film, Who Framed Roger Rabbit. He was voiced by Eddie Holden. Although he didn't appear in Mickey Mouse Works, his name was mentioned on a punch card in "Donald's Rocket Ruckus".

Toby is often represented musically by a slow theme played on a slap tongue bass clarinet.

  • In the 1966 vinyl record "Thumper's Great Race" and book version "Thumper's Race" from 1970. Toby is friends with Bambi, Thumper, and Flower. In the story, Toby participates in a race against Thumper and Flower hosted by Friend Owl (known as "The Wise Old Owl" in both versions).
