Toy Story Funhouse was an attraction located in Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park, themed around the 1995 Disney•Pixar film Toy Story. It opened on January 27, 1996.
The attraction permanently closed in May 1996[1] to make way for Redd Rockett's Pizza Port, later Alien Pizza Planet.
Prior to its run at Disneyland, Toy Story Funhouse was part of the “Totally Toy Story” event at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, the first of a long lineage of companion exhibits based on currently playing films. From November 22, 1995 through January 1, 1996, moviegoers could enjoy a first-run showing of Toy Story in the the theater, followed by a visit to Toy Story Funhouse in the next door Hollywood Colonnade. The price was $20 for adults, $15 for children 11 and under, $15 for seniors over 60, and $30 for VIP seats. It was then moved to Disneyland Park after the end of its run.[1]
Features[]
El Capitan Theater[]
The El Capitan Theater version was located in the Hollywood Colonnade next door and consisted of three floors of activities.[2]
1F[]
The first floor contained only:
- The Pizza Planet Cafe, a quick service dining location that served Pizza, Sandwhiches, Cookies, and, according to the brochure[2], Slushies. Not unlike future incarnations found at the Disney Parks
★2F[]
The main level where the entrance is. Contained on this level were:
- Woody’s Roundup, an area where, according to the brochure, guests could hear a live western band, try their luck at lassoing a steer in the western arcade, get something to eat from the chuck wagon, or learn the two-step or how to line dance with Woody
- The Green Army Men Room, where guests could partake in a fun obstacle course while wearing boots strapped to bases, similar to how an Army Man would do it
- Mr. Potato Head’s Playroom, where guests could see a life-size Play-Doh sculpture of Buzz and Woody, interact with larger than life Spirograph and Lite-Brite walls, and/or create a masterpiece at the arts-and-crafts bar
- Buzz’s Galaxy, a space-inspired area with an interactive flight simulator, laser shooting gallery, opportunities to play out-of-this world games like Lunar Basketball and a Buzz Lightyear meet-and-greet
3F[]
The upper level of the exhibit. It contained:
- Totally Interactive, an opportunity to play the Toy Story tie-in video game
- Hamm’s Theatre, which features a live stage show called Hamm’s All-Doll Revue, a “live singing and dancing extravaganza”, and the Stage Door Snack Bar
Disneyland Park[]
The Disneyland Park incarnation is notably smaller and only had one floor, containing the following:
- The Lite-Brite and Spirograph walls from Mr. Potato Head’s Playroom
- The Totally Interactive! room
- The Woody’s Roundup Room
- The Green Army Men Room
- Hamm’s All-Doll Revue, located at a new version of Hamm’s Theater outside the attraction on an adjacent stage
