Various assorted trees are characters featured in the 1932 Silly Symphony short Flowers and Trees. They are large plants that make up a forest.

Appearances[]

Flowers and Trees[]

As a blackbird wakes up on its nest on a sleeping tree, three assorted trees - two tall and one small wake up and use their branches like arms, followed by flowers and mushrooms waking up and later a Boy Tree, a Lady Tree, and an Old Man Tree. As the Boy Tree tries to get the Lady Tree's attention, another tree conducts six robins on a branch to serenade their relationship as they sing along using his branch as a baton. However, when the Old Man Tree arrives, the Boy Tree engages in a fight against him to avoid being replaced as the Lady Tree's love interest while some other trees notice the commotion between the two. As the Old Man Tree twists a stump and ignites it on fire, all the other trees and animals become worried of the fire arriving.

As the fire spreads, a pine tree shaped like a hen gathers her offspring to lead them to safety while avoiding the flames. Another tree is then seen running away from the fire as he leaps into a pond to use an empty stump to replace the bark consumed by the fire. Just then, the other trees notice the fire burning the Old Man Tree while the other birds work together to extinguish the fire by piercing through a cloud to send in the rain, saving the surviving trees in the forest, except for the Old Man Tree who turned into hollow, showing he died during the fire while the other trees react sadly. As the forest recovers, the wedding between the Boy Tree and Lady Tree begins, as the conductor tree using his branch to conduct the robins to sing during the wedding as the flowers and trees are gathered during the wedding. As the Boy Tree and Lady Tree are married and kiss together, all the other trees happily react to their relationship while the flowers celebrate.

Other Appearances[]

Two generic trees, alongside the Boy Tree, and the Lady Tree, and the flowers were featured in the Flowers & Trees air freshener commercial in the House of Mouse episode "Donald's Pumbaa Prank".

Trivia[]

  • David Hand's crew not only animated the trees in Flowers and Trees but also the birds, daisies, flames, and caterpillar as well.[1]
  • Most of the trees making facial expressions are drawn in as backgrounds rather than using cel animation in most scenes.
  • The only other trees being seen animated in cel besides the Boy Tree, Lady Tree, and Old Man Tree were the conductor tree, the two large trees and one small tree at the beginning of the short, and a generic tree being chased by the fire receiving an empty stump to replace the bark burned by the fire.
