Tristan is a supporting character of the 2004 Touchstone Pictures film King Arthur, which sought to tell a historically accurate version of the legend of Arthur and his knights.

Background[]

Personality[]

Tristan is a quiet, almost spiritual knight that serves under Arthur. While all of them identify as Pagans, Tristan makes his beliefs well known with his face paint and the frequent use of his falcon which he carries with him wherever he goes. He is a trustworthy person with very few words, which extends to him on the battlefield, showcasing a very slow and methodic way of fighting. Out of all the knights, he is the one who is more accepting of his inevitable, and almost prophetic fate.

Trivia[]

  • Tristan is Mads Mikkelsen's first role in an American film production.
  • In usual legends, Tristan is regarded as one of Arthur's best knights and friend of Lancelot. He is primarily known for his tragic love story with Iseult, sometimes spelled Isolde. Tristan was supposed to bring Iseult for her wedding, but during their travels together, the two fell in love, sometimes due to them ingesting a love potion, and face trials to prove it. Mark of Cornwall, Iseult's betrothed, discovered their love affair and has Tristan killed, with Iseult killing herself shortly afterwards.
