The Troll is a character from the 2020 Disney+ original film Artemis Fowl.
Background[]
The troll is a massive creature which did not appear to possess a lot of intelligence. He is shown to be a large violent creature often shown to be causing massive destruction wherever he goes, often doing so in a very ferocious manner. According to Briar Cudgeon, the troll is allergic to nettles and wasp juice, which is the troll's weakness.
Role in the film[]
When Foaly receives a report of a runner attacking on the surface at Martina Franca, he sends Holly Short on a dispatch to do her assignment where she encounters the troll at Italy where a wedding is taking place just as the troll attacks a girl. Holly takes on the troll causing havoc across the village, using strings of hanging lights to tie up the troll just as Foaly activates the Time Freeze over the troll. As a group of L.E.P.RECON officers repair the damage caused by the troll and then they carry the troll out of the festival, Holly takes a detour in a plan to clear her father's name, followed by the Time Freeze later being deactivated.
Soon as the troll captured by L.E.P.RECON forces looks through a window of Fowl Manor thanks to Briar Cudgeon's plans, Artemis, Dom, Mulch, and Holly prepare to attack the troll which suddenly gets launched inside and crashes into the manor, due to Cudgeon's suspicious plans. Domovoi then distracts the troll inside the Manor while chasing him, albeit the troll causing destruction inside while Mulch grabs the Aculos while Dom tells his niece Juliet to escape from the troll. Throughout the ambush, Dom attempts to kill him, only for the troll to toss him upstairs while holding onto a a seat in the shape of a bull while Mulch takes on the troll who suddenly tosses him, still with the Aculos. While Mulch swallows it, the troll continues causing a lot of destruction inside the house, only for Artemis to counter attack, followed by Dom and Juliet working together using the head of the furniture shaped like a bull using its horns to impale the troll while Artemis and Juliet retreat from the troll. This, however, only led the troll to become angry. The troll suddenly grabs the chandelier while Artemis arms himself with an LEP gun, to which the chandelier suddenly breaks while Artemis retreats, causing the troll to fall from high below and resulting him either being killed or knocked down unconsciously, albeit crushing Dom, severely injuring him. However, Dom manages to survive thanks to Holly's magic.
Trivia[]
- Although Briar Cudgeon mentions that there is more than one troll the fairies faced throughout the film, the troll that attacked the wedding is the only individual troll seen throughout the entire film, indicating that said character is a species of troll.
- In the deleted scene "More Troll Fight" only available in the Disney+ release, it showcased more footage of the battle against the troll at Fowl Manor which was not used in the final version of the film. Some of the scenes used in the deleted scene consisted of incomplete CGI effects as well as incomplete visual effects, showing that the effects used in these scenes were not finalized.[1]
