"Try a Little Something New" is a song from the Welcome to Pooh Corner Cable TV series which premiered in 1983 on the Disney Channel (which was also that channel's inaugural season). The song was written by the Academy Award winning songwriting duo of Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman.
Song placement[]
New episodes played from 1983-1986 in the first run. Reruns continued to air until 1997. The Sherman Brothers wrote five songs, one for each of the major characters to sing, repeatedly each week. A storyline would "belong" to one character and at the end of an episode, the appropriate character would sing his "lesson song".
About the song[]
"Try a Little Something New" is sung by Rabbit. It is about how Rabbit deals with his "naughty habits" of mundanity and stagnation.
Lyrics[]
Welcome to Pooh Corner version[]
Every great magician
Has a grand ambition
To become the greatest one of all
No one liked my magic
It was getting tragic
'Til I looked into my crystal ball
And it said
Try a little something new
Try a little something different
Try a little something no one else has done.
Take a little different view
Try a little something new
That's the little magic trick to having fun, fun, fun, fun
That's the little magic trick to having fun
I used to be a rabbit
With a lonely habit
I never ever tried to make a friend
Then I met old Pooh Bear
And Owl, Roo and you there
Now all my lonely days are at an end
Because I
Tried a little something new
Tried a little something different
Tried a little something no one else has done
I took a little different view
Tried a little something new
That's the little magic trick to having fun, fun, fun, fun
That's the little magic trick to having fun
Once I just ate carrots
Then I tried a radish
That led to a turnip and a beet
Now it's greens and potatoes
Squash and rutabagas
Everyday there's something great to eat
Each day I try a little something new
Try a little something different
Try a little something no one else has done
I take a little different view
Try a little something new
That's the little magic trick to having fun, fun, fun, fun
That's the little magic trick to having
ABRACADABRA!
Fun!
Sing a Song with Pooh Bear version[]
Tigger: Don't worry there, Buddy Bear. Owl has a great idea. Hoo-hoo! Just listen and learn. Well, listen anyhow.
Owl: There once was a musician
With a grand ambition
To become the greatest one of all.
First, he tried out drumming
Then, he took up humming
'Til he looked into a crystal ball.
And it said...
Try a little something new
Try a little something different
Try a little something no one else has done.
Take a little different view
Try a little something new
That's a little simple trick to having fun, fun, fun, fun
That's a little simple trick to having fun.
Tigger: Once, there was a rabbit
With a lonely habit
He never ever tried to make a friend.
But then, He met old Pooh Bear,
And me, And Roo, And you there.
Now, all his lonely days are at an end.
On account of because he...
Tigger and Owl: Tried a little something new
Tried a little something different
Tried a little something no one else has done.
He took a little different view
Tried a little something new
That's a little simple trick to having fun, fun, fun, fun
That's a simple trick to having fun.
Owl: You gotta look high,
You gotta look low.
You gotta look here and there and everywhere you know.
Tigger: You gotta look far,
You gotta look wide.
Owl: 'Cause you never know what you'll find on the other side.
Tigger: You gotta look in,
You gotta look out.
You gotta look up and down, around and all about.
Owl: High and low, tree and brook.
Tigger: Far and wide, every cranny and nook.
Owl: 'Cause you never know what you'll find until...
Tigger: You never know what you'll find until you...
Owl: Never know what you'll find until you look!
Owl and Tigger: So...
Try a little something new
Try a little something different
Try a little something no one else has done.
Just take a little different view
Try a little something new
That's a little simple trick to having fun, fun, fun, fun
That's a little simple trick to having fun.
Tigger: And...
Owl and Tigger: Try a little something new
Try a little something different
Try a little something no one else has done.
Take a little different view
Try a little something new
That's a little simple trick to having fun, fun, fun, fun
Owl: That's a little simple trick...
Tigger: It's a very magical trick. Hoo-Hoo!
Owl: It's a simple little trick...
Owl & Tigger: To having fun!
Tigger: Don't worry, Pooh boy. If Old Bird Brain can find a song, so could you. Hoo-hoo-hoo!
Trivia[]
- The lyrics of the original song were altered, and the song was woven with another song "High and Low (You'll Never Know What You'll Find)" in Disney Sing Along Songs: Sing a Song with Pooh Bear and Piglet Too.
