Tuliza is a flowering plant featured in the third season of the Disney Jr. animated series, The Lion Guard.
Background[]
Ever since Kion was struck by Ushari during battle against Scar, the venom started to inflict on Kion which causes him to have a hard time controlling the Roar of the Elders. According to Rafiki, only Tuliza can help relieve Kion's stress and pain. Makini, who helps the Lion Guard on their way to the Tree of Life, has a staff with a gourd containing Tuliza in it and without it, Makini cannot give Tuliza for Kion.
Role in the series[]
In "Battle for the Pride Lands", Kion becomes struck by Ushari during the battle against Scar, the bite emits a venomous effect towards him and slowly causes him to lose control of the roar. When Rafiki finds out that there is no cure for Kion in the Pride Lands, the only way to get rid of the venom is to seek the Tree of Life which is very far away from the Pride Lands. To help calm him so he can control the Roar properly, Makini and Rafiki offer Kion Tuliza to which he accepts because according to Rafiki, if the venom stays inside Kion for too long, Kion will have a hard time controlling the roar. Since then, the Lion Guard (this time with Anga and Makini joining in) set off to leave the Pride Lands and get to the Tree of Life by following the Moja Kwa Moja Stones.
In "The Harmattan" when the Lion Guard finds shelter when the incoming sandstorm arrives at the Backlands, Makini offers Kion some Tuliza to which he refuses to accept her offer at first due to him having a hard time knowing the difference between right and wrong. When Bunga tells him that Makini is on Kion's side, Kion then accepts her offer.
In "The Accidental Avalanche" after the snow monkeys find a new hot springs to relax at after Anga saves them from falling into a hole, Anga finds Tuliza for Kion as well as another Moja Kwa Moja Stone.
In "Ghost of the Mountain", Bunga finds a batch of Tuliza while exploring the bamboo forest, but accidentally encounters a group of red pandas.
In "Dragon Island", Makini loses some Tuliza which is caught in an ocean wave. Later while trying to help Kion, Anga, Ono, and Makini search the other side of the island by looking for the Moja Kwa Moja Stone alongside a patch of Tuliza.
In "Journey of Memories", Makini tries to offer Kion some pieces of Tuliza, but Kion refuses to eat it because it is covered with desert sand. Later that night, a jerboa named "Tupp" arrives towards the group and offers Makini to wash the sand off of the Tuliza for Kion to consume.
In "The Race to Tuliza", Fuli encounters another territorial cheetah named "Azaad" who refuses to help her friends at first. To obtain the Tuliza, Fuli offers Azaad a match against him to which Azaad wins against Fuli. During a rematch, Fuli saves Azaad from falling into the gorge to which after saving him, Azaad agrees to help Fuli help Kion relax peacefully with a flock of flamingos around. Arriving at the beach where Kion has trouble with the flamingos, Azaad and Fuli arrive just in time and prevent Kion from roaring at the flamingos by giving him Tuliza. Afterwards, Kion apologizes to the flamingos to which they all accept his apology as Kion decides to leave the flamingos alone.
In "Mama Binturong", Tuliza serves as the main focus of this episode as Tuliza is frequently seen there. Throughout it, all the animals living in the tropical forest are afraid of Tuliza, because it is linked to Mama Binturong and her porcupines. Even worse, no animals like to talk about Tuliza outside because whenever someone says it out loud, it causes Mama Binturong to send her porcupines to confiscate the Tuliza.
When Makini asks a tapir named "Tenuk" for Tuliza, the tapir runs away in fear, shocking his friends a gibbon named Seisou and a mongoose named Bambun. Later, a porcupine named Smun spies on the Lion Guard talking about the animals afraid of Tuliza just as he decides to tell his master Mama Binturong about the Guard talking about Tuliza. Smun then tells her about the Lion Guard talking about Tuliza. Mama Binturong explains that all the Tuliza belongs to her. Mama Binturong gives the animals a strict rule about Tuliza to which she explains that all the Tuliza belong to her, much to her greed. After hearing Makini say "Tuliza", Mama Binturong tells her porcupines to take the staff she left behind. Just as the porcupines take Makini's staff, Makini does not notice that until she later finds out that she lost her staff. The Lion Guard asks the other animals to know where Makini's staff is at, but they refuse; however, after asking a mouse deer about this, the group then decides to talk to Seisou. Later at the cave, Kion and his team have a private conversation with a gibbon named Seisou who explains that this is the only place where they can talk about Tuliza privately since no porcupines can hear any animals say it.
At the Stone Forest, Anga discovers Mama Binturong's hideout which is a hill made of Tuliza to which Ono devises a plan to get to the hideout without getting caught by Mama Binturong and her porcupines to which Bunga is the only member of the Lion Guard who can get to the Tuliza to which Bunga gets through the Stone Forest to find the Tuliza and Makini's staff. Approaching Mama Binturong, Bunga asks her to get Makini's staff back, but she refuses. During battle, Mama Binturong sends an army of porcupines to attack Bunga which he was able to get through them. He then asks her to hand over the staff to which Mama Binturong explains that Bunga must defeat her to retrieve it.
Bunga confronts her as she notices Bunga eating Tuliza as she tells her to stop touching the Tuliza as Bunga falls off, still with the staff. Bunga then uses his stench ability to defeat her and her porcupines in order to get the staff back (also causing the pile of Tuliza to wither due to Bunga's stench). Smun tells her that they will look for more Tuliza to which Mama Binturong decides to get her revenge against Bunga instead to which Smun explains the Stone Forest will never be the same without Mama Binturong as Bunga brings back the missing staff to Makini. Makini, however, thanks Bunga for finding Tuliza.
In "Friends to the End", the Tuliza no longer works for Kion much to Fuli's concern just as the Guard continues their journey to the Tree of Life.
In "Little Old Ginterbong", Mama Binturong is shown to be lying to all the Lion Guard and the Night Pride as she takes the Tuliza from all the other animals much to her greed. Bunga, with help from Binga, manages to defeat her after her true identity is revealed.
